Doing odds and ends on my truck and found I had some blown lights in my third brake light. Pulled it out, drained the water.

The original connectors were complete mush...I didn't even twist to pull em out....they were just mush. So I bought new pigtails to wire up.

I have a red brake light in the center and two white running lights on the outside.

I can wire up the white lights...but I can't wire the brake light up correctly. If I connect it the same as the white lights, it works...but obviously doesn't perform as a brake light.


I have 3 wires coming from truck. Green, black, and blue striped.

I know from looking at the old brake connector it was wired with black and green....the running lights were connected to black/striped.

So, black is power, green/stripped are the signal/switch wires.

I cannot get the brake to light up (yes, I held the brake pedal down).


Any help? What/where does this ground do/go? I know it runs into the cab, but can I rewire something if need be?

And, I'm pretty sure the brake light worked previously (although I may be making this up).

And the tailights function properly.

I should mention that the black wire had 1 main wire, and connecting wires soldered? on running to each light. The white lights had the blue striped wire split and going to each outside white light. The green wire only went directly to the brake light.
