Default 3.5L ecoboost spark plug change issue

I recently bought a 2016 F150 3.5L ecoboost and ran into a problem changing the spark plugs. The drivers side was no problem at all but on the passenger side it appears that the plugs are under the intake manifold? I’ve watched every single video online and not one engine appears as mine does. There has been quite a bit of after market work done on the truck, such as cold air intake, etc.. Has anyone else seen anything like this or know the best way to continue? Thanks in advance.

Can just barely see the first ignition coil on passenger side.

The engine in the pictures is not the 3.5L ecoboost. That appears to be the 3.5 naturally aspirated engine. It looks like you will have to remove the intake manifold to get at the plugs. Try searching for the 3.5na engine.

You do not have the turbocharged Ecoboost engine.

Non ecoboost manifold.

You are correct, you will have to remove the manifold. So be prepared and get a replacement gasket before you start the job. Not terrible, I have this motor on my 14 Explorer and did it.

I hope the guy that sold it to you did not say he was selling you an Eco boost.

Like everyone said, just pull the upper manifold off, pretty quick and easy. I have done it a few times and have never needed to replace the gaskets, just clean them up before reassembly.

Must be one of those "deleted" Eco-Boosts that I keep hearing about. Sorry OP, but that's a Duratec 3.5L. Hope you weren't swindled into believing it was an Eco-Boost when buying it, it does happen all the time.

If you still want to finish your spark plug replacement, you must remove the intake manifold to do so. I would NOT re-use the original gasket. Part Stores should carry that gasket, usually called the Plenum Gasket, rather than the Intake Manifold Gaskets. You only need the Upper gasket, not the lower.

I'm assuming someone purchased a NA, but was told it was an EB.
