Going to be a tough one for you and the dealer. Possible it recorded something that your code reader won't pick up? While the dealer can't do anything if they can't duplicate or find a code, I'm thinking you still want to have the record of taking it in for the issue. If it repeats you are going to lunch a transmission sooner or later. I wouldn't do a reset until they have had their shot at it.

Same issue with my 2014 XLT. It was a small, plug in group of wires in the transmission. Total cost at dealership was $900 plus, almost $1050 with tax, supplies, etc. As I understand it, they dropped the pan and unplugged the bad and replaced it. Part was under $100 as I remember.
Yes, the RPM went past the redline and I was almost rear-ended by a police office following me in her personal auto.

This is going to sound like I am a little off my rocker, check your battery after the vehicle has been sitting a couple of hours and see if it has a full charge. I had a bunch of stuff going on in my truck over a couple of days which I had no explanation for and posted about it and was told to check my battery, sure enough, it was down on charge even though the truck was only 7 months old and I put 45,000kms on it in that time. Charged it up and everything has been good since. You can see my post in the link below, the one thing I did not mention in the post was regarding some odd Transmission shifting as I never put the two things together.

After reading your post, just went down and put the truck on a charge again. When hooking the charger up, sure enough was not at full charge again. Only this time, I am catching it before I start noticing anything going wrong. So many computers in these things, and the lights coming on and staying on that the alternators just can't seem to keep up at 100%.

Might be worth disabling the BMS temporarily to see if that resolves the issues.

I hate to bring up an old thread but I just had this happen to my 2018 yesterday. Merging on a freeway around 45mph or so, floored the throttle to get ahead of traffic, the trans downshifted then downshifted again to first. Let off the gas and it shifted back into the correct gear.

Dirty lead frame.
Bits of metal collect where the lead frame plugs in to the transmission. Get enough bits of metal, a short can happen that sends power to the wrong actuator, or screws up shaft speed information, or indicates the transmission is in the wrong gear.
At some point lead frames started getting a seal at the contacts to reduce metallic build-up. The magic of that starts at 23 minutes.

Ford started using the foam strip before 2016. It was one of thier attempts to fix the massive issues they were having with the redesigned leadframes. They changed the design in 2010 and immediately started having issues. They added the foam strips. And added a second magnet in the trans pan to attempt to collect the fine metal debris. Then they redesigned the electronics in the molded frame. My leadframe went bad in my 2016 6r80. It had the foam strip and second magnet. It was the trans rage sensor bad. The lead frame has three sensors that go bad. The video is for 2011 and above 6r80. Im not sure if any of this info applies to the 10 speed trans. Good luck. Hope you get it solved.
