With that area, I don’t like the phone being that close to drinks. And lastly, I’m happy with Ford’s Nav system, so I’m not always connected to CarPlay, and I just want to see my phone display.

to each there own. Also if u look under the armrest when you open it there is two spot for pen. Also phone is waterproof so worries about that and I also have the console shifter there.

I also have used a magnetic phone holder for a couple years. I use the style with 3M adhesive rather than the vent clips. It’s located just right of the infotainment screen. I also have one mounted in my CAT loader at work. My wife always has much different phones than I do and she can use it as well. Very flexible platform.

I certainly like the concept, but I'm too ham-fisted and would most certainly muck up the cable or port or both.

I use the set up in the link and love it. Not having to mess with plugging in the cable for CarPlay is great, it slides in flawlessly and they offer several sizes to accommodate with and without different cases. Especially on shorter trips where I wouldn't have messed with it before now I just set it in there. I also ran the cable behind the trim so I didn't have the cable hanging out in the way and I can close the console slide lid.

Yeah that bar across the dash I can’t get with though.

Sorry, I wasn’t inferring that your choice is bad, it just doesn’t work for me. Yes, I’m aware of the pen clips on the underside of the console lid, as well as the tray. But I need a pen many times a day, and like it readily available. Coupled with being a big person (6’-4”) with big hands and shoulders, and the poor ergonomics of Ford’s console, I just don’t want to open that console lid for anything, any more than I have to. It’s just awkward accessing it when you’re sitting in the driver’s seat. I use my cab as my mobile office, and spend lots of time there... sometimes as much as 40+ hours a week. And like I said earlier, I just prefer to have the phone screen in sight, because I’m not always connected to CarPlay. In fact... very rarely.

Like you said, “to each their own”, but I do like seeing and hearing what other options that other owners utilize.

I got the iOttie as well and mounted it in the same place. Very solid mount and in the perfect location.

We've got the Touch 2 versions in all of our vehicles, but mounted on the windshield. I tried that in the F-150 for a few months and it was just too much of a stretch. I like running both the Sync 3 GPS and Google maps at the same time and although the visibility was a little better on the windshield, the lower mount is acceptable. Plus the reach is perfect.
