That's a neat idea. I have had mine now since 2015. The only complaint I have is occasionally the thing loses sync with the memory cards. I bought a Rand McNally RV Overdrive7 to replace it. Lasted all of a couple days since it shakes so badly, even with a made up stiff RAM mount that I put it in the console and went back to the Garmin. Wish Garmin made an RV version of the Nuvicam!

For the OP, get a USB cable, plug it into the truck and phone and your phone should now become a media source. Works out of the box with iphone, Andriod needs some twiddling, OR setup the Carplay or Andriod Auto and do it all through the touchscreen of the truck. Much safer for you and everyone else on the road.

Illinois did pass a law I agree with, Moving Violation if you are even holding an electronic device while driving, and that included sitting at a red light. It is no longer an optional ticket, but one that goes on your record, which means they can take your license and give you a ticket.

I like the adhesive magnetic mounts. They don't block the vents and I just toss it on there.

If I take my phone out of my pocket, I just put it in the groove between the shifter and cupholder in the center console.
I don't look at it while driving, and calls and texts are synced to the truck anyway.

This and the magnetic mounts looks the best so far. But I think I am going to save some time to mess around with Android Auto and sync3 this weekend. If I can figure out how safely and easily play my personal music/audiobook collection from my phone, then I wont bother with a mount. Washginton state also has laws about holding cell phones, so I want to be safe/legal.

Thanks everyone!

I only use the Sync hands-free calls with my phone in my shirt pocket. With the new Tennessee cell phone while driving law it looks like the only thing you can physically do on your phone while driving is the one button to answer calls. I don't think that you can have the phone in your hand at any time. It looks like if you're under 18 you better just turn your phone off before you start.

You don't need to use Android Auto to play music from your phone.

Just connect to the head unit via BT, and you can select your phone as an audio source.

With Android Auto, the phone has to be plugged into the USB port, so you will have a cable to deal with.

Why AA does work over BT is beyond me.

I do use my cell over bluetooth, but as far as I can tell, I have to have my phone's music app running to play my music and that requires navigating on the actual phone. is there some other way?

I've got the iOttie OneTouch 4, and I'm also happy with it. It did eventually fall off after about a year, but as per the instructions I rinsed the suction cup, let it dry, and reinstalled (after wiping down the dash as well) and it's working well again.

If Google would allow third-party map apps to use the Android Auto system, I might not have bothered reinstalling it, but I prefer OSMAnd for offline maps to pre-downloaded Google maps in areas with iffy service (and there are plenty of those around here).

The only reason I went with a viewable mount is that I like to run 2 different GPS's. The OEM GPS is easier to read and gives a wider view to see side streets and landmarks, but Google maps does a better job of routing based on current traffic. I have installed the upgrade Carplay USB module and it's a nice feature, but it doesn't appear I can access the OEM GPS while plugged in.

I've used Proclip mounts in my last 3 vehicles and they are hands down the best out there. Pricey, but rock solid and perfect. I don't like the mounting option for the F-150 though so I'm trying to find something else that works too.
