WOW - intake manifold removed to replace a sensor -

before i even consider anything that extensive at 35K miles - I think it would be god to check that a wire has not been broken or connector come loose -

I cant even find anywhere a sensor would be on the back side of head on passenger side (this is bank 1 correct)

2.7 liter ECOBOOST XLT model it says

I wanted to be able to connect a known good sensor at the connector I remove from the sensor and then see if the Engine Control Unit does away with ALARM does this approach make sense? if I get no change then it would tell me that there is a wiring problem an to look for a break or worn/shorting wire???

Thank you

Engine is so packed into the engine compartment

Because you failed to mention what engine you had I was throwing it out there that if you had the 5.0 then you most likely would need a new engine temp sensor however since you do not have that engine we dont need to worry about that.
Ok here is the wiring diagram for the 2.7 engine coolant temp, its much worse then the 5.0 issue since you have to remove the intake manifold and its a ****ing bitch, one of the ten worse jobs Ive done.
This should be everything you need to determine if the engine coolant sensor is faulted. Test the sensor at connector C1047 pins 1 and 4. Due to the fact that you said there was evidence of rodents in the engine bay I would not be surprised if they got to this wiring harness in the valley, if the the wires between C1047 and C1046 are damaged then you will need a new harness, these wires are far to small to repair in my opinion.

Since this thread was resurrected, at first I expected coolant and trans temp to track closely together too but the trans is also shedding heat to the air from the metal housing.

can not believe how the Red Squirrels built a nest in three hours 🙃

your fantastically detailed response will allow me to determine if they chewed wires.

terrible

@GerdBBeckmann Sorry didnt see you responded.
Did they chew the wires under intake manifold? If so do you want instructions for everything you have to remove to access that connector? Do be warned its a large job, not impossible but may take up to two days with removal and installation.

Default Yes All the harnesses and the sensor connections were chewed approaching 3000 thousa

All the harnesses and the sensor connections were chewed approaching $3000 at the Ford dealer

I was able to use the information that you provided to checked all of the connectors to try to see if there were any signals. Shernoff all the wires were wide open so they had chewed through the sensor wires and then go on ahead and nested in the top part of the engine which chewed into the major harness that goes right across the top and destroyed all those wires too

absolutely incredible, I spoke to my local mechanic who was the first person to give me advice saying to go to the dealer because of the availability of the harnesses during Covid. He had four instances of rodent damage over the last month two of which the cars were totaled by the insurance company

I really appreciate your help. And I hope it’s extremely helpful for others this winter it seems like everybody’s hunkering down and I think these little red squirrels are just anticipating a cold winter or something because they’re finding everywhere to nest we found them in places where we never seen them before thanks again
