you adjust .07 qts? you must use a hypodermic needle.

Just had the G/F's Hyundai done, book calls for 5.07 qts., I gave them 5 qts., I adjust the fill after the engine cools down..
.
Well, they could drain, then close the drain well before it's all drained out (which is a known problem with the OP's engine, then fill it with your 5 quarts and be overfilled...

Guess it depends on the person. My dad, at 76, still changes his own oil. I’m 39, I don’t look forward or enjoy changing oil, but I do it, because I’ll know it’s done right. I’ll do it as long as I’m able. And I feel if I keep myself healthy and in shape, I should be able to do it for many years to come. Please note I’m not keeping myself healthy and in shape solely to change oil.

If I eventually can’t, I’ll take it some place and likely deal with these same scenarios as the op.

You have to strategize. I'll change oil just before the onset of winter that will take me into Spring. Mid summer change I'll wait until late evening, grab a light and couple of beers. I enjoy that more.

A Ronin plug for my plastic pan makes it easy with no mess. Large 5 gallon neoprene container for dirty oil storage disposal later at a nearby county recycling dropoff. Gets poured into a huge tank. Air Dam removed for easier access of the filter and a large sheet of thick cardboard to lay on for comfort. Got it down to a science. 50 years and I still enjoy it and I'm 72 now. Good exercise as well. Couple of beers, it's a party!

I try to do the same for winter. Though, I haven't yet this year. I should have done it yesterday since we're getting a few inches of snow this afternoon, but I'm a little early in miles. I can fire up the heat in the garage, it's just easier to do it in the driveway since the garage is 24x24 and doesn't leave me much room in front of the truck.

For me, it's way more convenient to just take an hour to do it myself at home than to schedule an appointment, drive somewhere, wait around, and drive back home.

Russ,
Have to tried to use a crawler while having h three fused vertebrae in my neck with a truck on ramps to do and oil change? The first time I went to the dealer for my fist oil change and filter I told the service manager that I didn't want to see one drop of oil on my concrete driveway and I didn't want to deal with a dipstick that's too frickken short to check my oil , and that I can assume the filter and drain plug is as tight as factory specs recommend.

They have been outstanding doing this and even invited me to see these things being done correctly.

OK, some cant change their oil. You have a valid reason.
I understand all you said but this,
> I didn't want to deal with a dipstick that's too frickken short to check my oil. <
What does that have to do with the dealer changing the oil?

I haven't changed oil for approximately 10. It's more or less, regardless, it's too long ago for me to remember.
I bought a new car so I changed it once early. I'll be changing it as I only get 2 free changes. I believe the cost for an oil change is around $120.
I'm going back to changing oil only because I don't want to pay $120 for an oil change. I've been paying $65 or less for as many years as I identified earlier.

Rumors state that the oil change tech is the dumbest person walking the earth.
However, if I went in to the shop to get a job being unemployed and said "why no, I have never worked on cars but I imagine it can't be hard" I'm sure they would hire me on the spot.
All this B.S. about being done right is so over used it's nauseating.
One guarantee in life is that any oil change thread will call the tech a retard and 50% of the comments will say "it's done right" by doing it themselves.
I don't know any of you any better than I know the people in the shop and I would not let any of you touch any of my vehicles.

All of the changes I have paid for have been done in the same city. I had one other oil change done in a different state and as far as I know, it was done 'right enough". Truck has maybe 20,000 when I had a mechanic garage near where I worked change it when it was 10 degrees in the middle of winter. I drove it over 200,000 miles. That shop must not have been too bad or I would never had made it that far.

If I could continue paying ~$60 for oil changes I'd let them do it.

I have a crawler but not a ramp. My driveway slopes up toward the street enough to make for a good angle. I slide under easily enough. The cardboard is plenty comfortable. I grab whatever to pull me around where I need to be to work the Ronin plug.

For the filter I have another sheet of cardboard I lay at the front. I'll use a small tray to catch the oil at the back drain shoot. I'll take care of the filter while the pan is still draining. Removing the filter makes for more drainage at the pan. Install new filter, grab a beer and take a 20 minute break and let it drain all that it can. All that's left is to close off the Ronin plug and fill her up. Start the engine, do a little cleanup while its running and check for leaks. Done.
