How about less then a 1/2 a quart? Less then 8 OZ? There is not that much even for 30 mins, unless maybe if you have a lot of sludge build up and it oozes out for hours?
Easier run a magnet thru it while your looking at it
Or send it out for analysis.
I will try at my next change, might be a while, I have a way to go for the next one, in the spring.
If your truck is the one in your signature, that’s not what this thread is about. The EB engines with the auto stop start hold oil up higher in the engine for those extra stop and starts. They’re known to take longer to drain than say the engine in your 99.

Decades ago the recycle truck used to pick up oil left beside the recycle bin. But these days I can usually leave a jug of used oil at the end of the driveway and it disappears within a week. Scavengers use it in their own engines, or in oil-fired heaters, or something.

You know how people talk about kids at the oil change places. hahaha

I just changed oil in a new car -first change I've done in 10 years or so. I wasn't sad but it didn't make me feel proud. If I were 16 and learning how to wrench on my own car, sure. Nothing satisfying about it these days. I have other things that give me a sense of accomplishment or things I could during that time period.
I'm not after a sense of accomplishment, I simply don't trust any one else to do it correctly. I can do it myself in 30 minutes including drain time, know it was done properly, know what type of oil was used, and it costs me $37 with full synthetic and an OEM filter.

On the contrary, if I take it to the dealer, it takes 1-2 hours, I don't know who did it (ASE Master Tech, or first day on the job booger-eater rushing through so he can go to lunch), I don't know what type of oil they used. And it costs me $60 plus tax.

It's not a hard job at all, but no one cares about your car as much as you, and the guy doing the oil change at the dealer usually isn't their top ranking mechanic. I worked at a dealer for a while and I've seen firsthand the level of carelessness that takes place with other people's vehicles.

OK, I didnt know that. Thanks
I wonder how they hold the oil up?
I still let mine drip for around 30 mins, an EB engine should be drained in that amount of time, right?

I find the oil filter has to be open (removed) during the drain period else my 2.7 takes 5.5 quarts vs 6.0.

Set a timer for 15 minutes once you start the drain process (you can wipe off your hands if needed).
At 15 minutes, switch to an empty container to collect the drips from 15 minutes to 30 minutes and share how much oil is accumulated by one drop at a time for 15 minutes.
Have you gotten 1/2-quart, almost a full quart?

Compare the contaminates/swirls between the two containers as well.
I did an oil change today and and excepted your challenge. Do you have any idea how boring it is to lie under a vehicle for 30 minutes?

After 15 minutes the draining was down to a drip. But a constant drip. I swapped to a small container and let it drip for another 15 minutes. The drips were happening at about a drip every 3 seconds.

After the 30 minutes was up I needed to move on with my life and put in the drain plug.

Below is the oil collected from 15-30 minutes:

sorry I did not have a measuring device that i could use on oil. (Not if I did not want to feel the wrath of my young bride).

I highlighted my favorite part!

I concede -there is more in the pan from 15 minutes of drip than anticipated.

Thanks for playing along.
I apologize to the bride.

I'm 71 and still doing my own oil changes. Truck's not too bad can get under it fairly easy and have Ronin plug on it. Do the wife's 14 Escape and daughter's 15 Fusion, thing I hate on them is the the diaper. They are actually bigger than the truck's and have 9 or 10 screws and not all the same on the Escape. Gotta do the daughters tomorrow, supposed to be mid to upper 30s, before it drops to teens for weekend.

If that's really all that is left, that wouldn't bother me one bit. I change my oil every 5K miles. If I get 95% out, which it looks like you more than did, I would be happy with that.

On my Fusion I leave the back screws on and just lower the front of the diaper.
It is easier getting the diaper back on.
