Default Ford Performance / Borla Touring Dual Exhaust Rear Exit Sound

I went back and forth and back and forth about which level of Borla exhaust to get. I drive my truck daily with my small kids and baby and didn’t want it annoying them/ keeping them awake during naps. So I ended up going with The Ford Performance/ Borla Touring Dual Exhaust Rear Exit. I give it a 10/10 on looks and quality. If it was 10% louder I’d give it a 10/10 on sound. It added a nice growl to my 3.5 L Roush Tuned Ecoboost. If you’re standing outside of the truck it sounds amazing. If you’re sitting inside it’s a little too quiet. My buddy has an 18 Raptor and we did a little sound test side by side and mine according to him sounds better and a little louder than his stock Raptor exhaust. Overall, if you want it to sound good and be quiet, go with the Touring. If you’re like me and want it a little louder but still not annoying I’d go with the Sport. At some point, I’ll most likely go to a custom shop and see if I can buy a Sport muffler and have it swapped out for the Touring muffler and keep the rest of the pipes as is. Low on the priority list right now though!

I had Borla Touring mufflers on both my Mustang Bullitt 4.6 3v and my 2014 Mustang GT 5.0. Just enough throaty rumble for me without being obnoxious.

I have touring, behind the tire single side exit. It sounds so good (5.0). Oh when it burns in a little bit it will get louder. Mine has went from a 5 on the loud meter to about 6.5). I really like it, build quality is second to none. I drive 40k a year so I needed something not too loud or obnoxious but a little more growl. It fit the bill for me.

I feel like if I had the 5.0 V8 it would be perfect! I love my 3.5 except the sound. But you are 100% correct. The quality of the materials is amazing. By far the best exhaust system I’ve ever had.

Forgive my ignorance, but Is there an upside to purchasing the whole exhaust system vs. just the muffler? I want to get the Borla touring muffler. I have a new 2019 XLT 5.0. Thanks.

I’m for sure not an expert in exhaust, but if you wanted just the muffler I’m assuming you’d have to call Borla directly- most websites I’ve found only list the full system.
The upside of the full system is the pipes are manufactured with a higher quality of both metal and joint welding, it’s supposed to minimize exhaust getting caught in the joints and increase your exhaust flow. How much it does over stock, who knows for sure. The other upside of the full system is you can change the exit point (dual rear exit for mine) and get some sweet exhaust tips if you’re into that. One more concern I’d have is figment issues - I’m again guessing - but I would assume the stock pipes from the down pipes to the muffler and exiting are a smaller diameter than the full Borla exhaust system- so it might not bolt up right. Hope this helps! Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in too.

Not sure about pickups but on my Mustangs I just bought the mufflers (or 'axle-back' as they called it).

I have wanted to purchase and install this exact catback exhaust system but have been reluctant to do so as I'm afraid it will sound "fartcanish" (yes that's all one word - add it to your dictionary) w/3.5L Ecoboost.

I had this same exhaust on my 2015 w/5.0L I sold and loved it.

Hahahaha added to the dictionary!! I for sure don’t have that sound, it’s a growl, a little rumble, not high pitched at all, just not the same as 5.0. Most people think it sounds great if they don’t know trucks. I’ve got a buddy with a Roush supercharged 5.0 and the Roush exhaust on his F150 and that is a monster and sounds like a monster!
