After the 4th and last time I went to the dealer for a fix of a knocking moonroof, I thought it was not fixed temporarily/permanently. I discovered that due to bumps or pot holes, the vibrating front passenger seat, twisted seat belt and pillar next to them caused the noise.

The metal/hard part of that seat belt(twisted) is being pushed to the adjacent pillar by the vibrating upper part of the front passenger seat.

Since I discovered that last year, every time I drive without my lovely wife, I make sure that the front passenger seat belt is in normal stowage position.

I had this knocking from my roof today and it was driving me crazy. I kept looking for loose items and couldn't find anything. Ended up opening the moonroof and it went away. After I closed the roof the knock didn't come back. At least not yet. Crossing my fingers the knock doesn't come back because I hate dealing with dealers in general.

^ I've noticed that opening the roof kills the knocking for a while, then it'll slowly come back.
Need to just make an appt for the dealer to look at it, but they don't do loaners.

This is a fact. It fixes it for a very short time. Also in regards to the seatbelt in the above post, I have noticed the same issue however it has nothing to do with the roof. They are two distinguishable issues/sounds.

This is also my solution to the problem...periodically open/close the moon roof. I noticed the knocking during it's first winter when since I live in Ottawa Canada and for obvious reasons left the roof closed starting in October. Now when I hear the knock I open/close even when its below zero.

So i found the actual problem!!!! Its the rear glass mounting tabs! The noise can be coming from any of them on either side. The TSB will only fix the problem temporarily because it gets lubricant into that gap for a short time. The top of the mounting tabs are right up against the body of the truck when the glass is flush and they rub the clear coat and make noise when the truck goes over pretty much anything! Use a T25 Torx and loosen the screw, apply some grease AND a small piece of felt tape to the top of the tab. Push the glass up and retighten the screw. Presto! Took days of poking around, but that's definitely the culprit!

Do you think applying the slick tape instead of grease and felt tape would work just as well?
