A Gremlin at 20,000 feet! Look out!

This morning I fiddled with the moonroof again and it clanked and closed all the way. Now it will tilt but won't slide yet since the front panel got pulled out of alignment from all the shinanigans. I don't know if any gears were damaged.
It doesn't really matter though. I test drove an '18 today and it was quieter and had less vibrations, so I think I'm going to move on and go with it.

The tape fix worked wonders for my sunroof! It was getting to where it wouldn't open and close properly without several tries and had the knocking noise. After a month with the tape fix it opens and closes smoothly and is super quiet. I ordered the cheaper knock off tape from amazon. I think it was about $7.00 for a big roll.

Do you have a link for the tape you used?

I didn't have time to read all 87 pages of the thread.

I have the knocking noise and from the jist I get from reading some posts here it has to do with the sunroof/moonroof. I tried to the venting of the sunroof and i went away. I took it into the dealer this morning and the rails are cracked. In addition to the rattling, the sunroof wont open. Hopefully when the put the new rails in that will fix this issue.

Has anyone who still reads this monster thread have the symptoms and a fix of replacing the rails?

TIA

I just came back from dealer. They told me there was a TSB (as many mentioned) and some sunroofs were installed without lubrication. They cleaned all tracks and applied some grease. It was pin drop quite while I drove home. Close to home I hit some rail tracks and this thing seems to be making slight clanking again. I will drive a little and see . Does not look promising

I had the same problem. Mine wouldn't open some times and wouldn't close others without a lot of hassle. The tap fix mentioned previously has absolutely has fixed my issues. And it cost me a whopping 6-7 dollars and about five minutes of my own time.

My moonroof is making a noise when I go over bumps as well. If I apply pressure to the rear of the front glass, the noise doesn't go away. If I apply pressure to the front of the front glass, the noise goes away.

Will applying the slick tape to the front of the rear glass help with reduce noise thats coming from the front of the front glass?
