Default Long 6.5 ft vs Short 5.5 ft box

When I was factory ordering my 2007 SuperCrew, the 6.5 ft box was an option that said "Late availability". They finally notified me that the long(er) box was available well into 2007..like May. I ordered the XLT, 7200 GVW, Big tank (35 gal,) and it was one of the last ones off the 2007 line, before they shut down for the 2008 set up. That said, it seems to me that the 5.5 ft box is just "a little too short"...but that's just me I guess...ATVs, 8-10 ft lumber, kayaks, my Vstrom 650 m/c and so on do better in the longer box.
From what I see/ read here, my guess is that 80-90% of you have the short box...I wonder why..
I've never believed in the saying: less is more.

Sometimes it's out of necessity and sometime it's just preference. I have the 6.5 and really like the look. The 5.5 looks like the cab is too big for the bed and looks out of proportion. The 6.5 looks just right. Again just a matter of preference.

Personally, unless you have a specific need for a long bed, the short bed looks better, and is a little easier to get in and out of tight spots.

The short beds sell more due to the ease of driving and parking. Long beds hang out way too much in many parking stalls and double parking in some areas results in tickets or worse some *****hat messing up your ride.

I wanted a long bed, until I saw my truck, and thought it was a gem. Do I miss the long bed, yes, but only when I'm hauling something that needs the length. How often do I haul something that would best fit in a long bed? Not enough for me to worry about it.

I think most people have the short bed because what they really want is the crew cab. Crew cab + 6.5' bed = school bus. I'm in your boat though, I got a supercab with 6.5' bed because I don't have kids and wanted to use it as a truck, not an SUV. I could juuuuust close the tailgate with my ATV in the bed. It's also nice for hauling my mountain bike and kayaks and other things.

I wanted the longer bed but didn't want to deal with the additional 4 foot turning radius with the longer bed. Looks are a personal preference but the big cab with long bed won't fit in many garages either.

I guess it depends what your driving experience is, maybe. I daily drove a CCLB F350, and CCSB F250 for years. I specifically wanted a 6.5' bed when shopping for the F150, because I think the 5.5 looks too short proportionally. I have had the 6.5' bed packed with camping/kayaking gear, and wished for an 8' bed at times, but never have I wished the bed was smaller..

I don't agree with any of the comments about the truck being bus-like or anything.

I too bought a Supercab because the 6.5' bed was more important to me than cabin space and I didn't want the extra long wheel base. In my past two trucks, 6.5' was often barely enough when hauling things so I knew I wouldn't want a 5.5.'

Though the longer the wheelbase, the more stable the vehicle will be while towing, so there is that advantage with the Supercrew + 6.5'

I guess it boils down to your primary use. For the few times a year I need to tote longer materials, atvs, lawn tractors, etc..., I hook up the 12 foot trailer.

We all have different needs and luckily Ford lets us get the combo we need.

Appearance wise I like the longer bed, hauling stuff the long bed is much more useful, but parking wise the short is nice. Since my dogs don't care about leg room I went with the super cab and got the best of both worlds. I had the 2006 super crew with long bed and it was a pain to back into my garage (involves a 90 degree turn).
