Long 6.5 ft vs Short 5.5 ft box

When I was factory ordering my 2007 SuperCrew, the 6.5 ft box was an option that said "Late availability". They finally notified me that the long(er) box was available well into 2007..like May. I ordered the XLT, 7200 GVW, Big tank (35 gal,) and it was one of the last ones off the 2007 line, before they shut down for the 2008 set up. That said, it seems to me that the 5.5 ft box is just "a little too short"...but that's just me I guess...ATVs, 8-10 ft lumber, kayaks, my Vstrom 650 m/c and so on do better in the longer box.
From what I see/ read here, my guess is that 80-90% of you have the short box...I wonder why..

I'M good with the 6.5' er now.
