I ordered the XLT, 7200 GVW, Big tank (35 gal,) and it was one of the last ones off the 2007 line, before they shut down for the 2008 set up. That said, it seems to me that the 5.5 ft box is just "a little too short"...but that's just me I guess...ATVs, 8-10 ft lumber, kayaks, my Vstrom 650 m/c and so on do better in the longer box.
From what I see/ read here, my guess is that 80-90% of you have the short box...I wonder why..
I've never believed in the saying: less is more.
Because a SCREW 6.5' won't fit in my garage. It would also be more annoying in parking lots and around town than the extra foot would ever come in handy for me...that extra foot is added entirely to the wheel base. That turning radius, oof

If you never believed less is more, why aren't you in a crew cab 8' bed super duty?

Had a 2010 Super Crew with 5.5 bed and loved it but it looked off IMO.

Bought a 2016 Super Crew with 6.5 bed and love it also. IMO it looks way more proportional with the 6.5 bed on a super crew.

The extra foot does make a big difference for sure in a few ways. The amount of stuff you can put in the bed was great for our drive to Florida from Kitchener.

The turning radius on this truck is brutal though. And parking spots seem to be getting smaller and smaller. It is definitely more challenging in tight spots for sure. I usually tend to park away from people anyways.

I've had lots of 4'x8' sheet goods in the short box and I agree, it worked great. The 10'x3'x4" weren't sheets. They were solid, freshly cut maple slabs (i.e. not dried) and heavy af. I don't know if the 6.5' would have made any difference but isn't the box a foot more forward on the 6.5'?

Yes, your load would have been shifted 1 foot forward with more weight ahead of the rear axle and less behind it.

Edit: Older trucks had the rear axle in the middle of any size box, these trucks have the rear axle the same distance from the rear of the truck regardless of box size, so any difference in bed length will show ahead of the rear axle.

yes on a 10 ft beam you would run less of a risk of the seesaw effect but i guess at that point you should strap them down anyway.. but the overall length from the end of the cab would be the same with a 10 ft beam on both beds

I had a 5.5 on my 14 Supercrew and a 6.5 on my 16 now. I actually prefer the look of the shortbox but I don't think I could go back now. You can fit 8' 2x4's corner to corner in the 6.5 bed with the tailgate up. I guess the turning radius is a bit worse but I never really noticed much of a difference, I always back into parking spots though.
