Hence the horrendous turning radius, that extra length is all in the wheelbase. I suspect that mostly the longer wheelbase and same axle-to-rear-bumper length makes the biggest difference towing with a high tongue weight

I have the 6.5' bed, and selected that primarily for a little more stability while towing. I'll never get one again - parking this truck is a downright pain in the ***. Small parking spaces? Going to stick halfway out into the aisle. Narrow Aisle? Forget parking in between two cars. Have fun going up and down tight ramps in parking garages. I've also never found anything that fit inside the 6.5' bed that wouldn't have also fit in a 5.5. It's either small enough to fit in the short bed or hanging out the back anyway.

I do like how it looks, but it sucks sometimes for daily driving utility.

Been there, done that with my old F-350 Lariat Crew Cab, Powerstroke LWB.
Since we aren't hauling our big 5th wheel South for the Winter anymore.. don't need the 25 footer

It’s not the size it’s the turning radius, feels like you should be able to turn like a 1/2 ton because it is but it turns like a super duty.

Drove my buddies 153 Ram with a lift kit and that truck turns circles around my 157.

That said, I’ve got mine packed full right now and wish I had 8’. I Carry 12’ sections of lumber and other products on a regular basis, I wouldn’t feel quite as confident about it if I had 1’ less under the load. Might have to get one of those funny load supporters if I had the 5.5.

Had a 2010 SCab 6.5, 2016 Crew 6.5, and now the 2016 Crew 5.5, and the most useful was the SCab 6.5, but the Crew 6.5 was just too long front to back, especially once I added my plow. I'll make do with the 5.5 now, I needed the interior space, and rarely had all 6.5' packed anyway.

I think the vast majority of people today use their truck as a car, rarely hauling anything in the bed except luggage. I hate the 5.5' bed on my Supercrew, but I use my truck as a truck. I love the Supercrew for the huge second row (and use it more for storage than people carrying), but my next truck will be Supercab and 6.5' bed.

I purchased a super crew with a 6.5 bed. For me if I was buying a full size pick up truck I was going to get the largest bed I could afford. I needed the super crew option due to family so I couldn't do the 8' bed in a half ton so 6.5 it was. The small 5.5 bed makes pick up trucks look like an Explorer Sport Trac.

I ordered the XLT, 7200 GVW, Big tank (35 gal,) and it was one of the last ones off the 2007 line, before they shut down for the 2008 set up. That said, it seems to me that the 5.5 ft box is just "a little too short"...but that's just me I guess...ATVs, 8-10 ft lumber, kayaks, my Vstrom 650 m/c and so on do better in the longer box.
From what I see/ read here, my guess is that 80-90% of you have the short box...I wonder why..
I've never believed in the saying: less is more.
Because most buyers are appearance buyers. They don't haul much. That's why you'll hear comments like I don't understand what an extra foot gives you. And that's why long beds are hard to find at dealers. Maybe if Ford started stocking more long beds, they would sell more. But they won't because of the appearance buyers.

Had the 5'5" on my 2012 and now 6'5" on my 2017 and would never go back to the shorter bed. Love the balanced look and extra foot hauling. It is a little more challenging in tight parking spots but completely used to it now..... To each their own.......... BTW I did have a heck of time finding the 6'5" with the specs I wanted..........

Because I prefer the look of a crew cab short box and Ive now had two short box crew cabs and have never wished for a longer bed. I throw everything in there from dead deer, to lumber to dirt and anything else in between. Never had an issue, can still haul my kayaks and for anything else too long my trucks both came with trailer hitches!
