I had two Scabs with the 6.5' beds and now have a "off the lot" Screw with a 5.5' and a 3.5L engine. THe best of both worlds for me in a SCREW with 3.5L and 6.5' bed with side steps and tailgate step.

They stock what sells, and what people want is what sells. At least with obvious major things that even car ignorant people know about, like overall size of vehicle, color, bench/buckets, etc. We aren't talking something like gas tank size or rear axle where what is stocked would likely have a big impact on what people buy (because they don't even know what they are buying).

Requirement for a truck was that it fit in my garage. 5.5’ Screw fits in my garage with less than 4 inches to spare.

I grew up when the shortest bed you could get in a full size truck was about 6.5 feet. My Dad always said that short bed (6.5 feet) trucks were kinda useless and he always had an 8 foot bed on his trucks. This was in the pre-extended and pre-crew cab (half ton) days. At 61 years old, I've owned 6-8 trucks and they've all been either extend cab or crew cab and all have had a 6.5 foot bed. My last two have been 157"wb Ford Lariats. I don't see myself with one of the 5.5 foot bed trucks, though in a modern parking lot.......

I think your dad's definition is a perfect example of what's going on here .. he felt 6.5 bed's were useless and you could only use a 8ft bed .. it feels so similar to the 6.5 vs 5.5 argument in this thread. yet some how you are fine with a 6.5 bed even though your dad said it would be useless . The irony in that is the 6.5 is only 1 foot longer than a 5.5 yet a lot of people here act like its the end of the world to have 1 foot less space

While maybe not "the end of the world" for me a 5.5 foot bed would be an issue. I've traveled to trade shows in my trucks for 30 years now. Part of the booth I take are 6 foot folding tables. Even when that need is over (retirement in the next year or so) I'll stick with the 6.5 for the canoe.

If you're fine with a 5.5 ft bed are you fine with a 4.5 ft bed?

The annoying thing is a chevy 6.5 foot bed can house an atv with the tailgate shut but not a ford.
