Default Newbie, had to brag on purchase

New ride
hello everyone.

Excited to be in an f-150 after recently owning ram 1500 and a Tacoma. I wanted to boast about my purchase for a second as I think I got a hell of a deal.

Went visit some family and learned they had went to the dealership the day before to to trade in their 2016 f-150 for an f-250. Quickly called the bank and got preapprived while they called the dealership to ask if they could do a trade in trade out. The dealership had offered them 25,000 for their truck. They were getting shafted IMO. Their loss was my gain.

2016 f-150 XLT FX4 nav, trailer park assist, 3.55 w/ 5.0. Aftermarket air bag already installed. 40,000 miles. They are retired and tend to just go drive a lot lol.

nice so basically you used the dealership to run title and do all the paperwork and your family allowed you to keep the $25k deal purchase to them?

i see the confusion, no they made the deal verbally and left cause it was late. The plan was to go back the next evening and do the paperwork. I found out between that time.

how it worked was I actually bought the vehicle from the dealer on paper. They were giving 25k for the truck. We called the dealer and said hey if you wanna sell that f-250 then sell this truck to justin (me) for the 25k. They agreed. By doing this my family still got to keep the tax credit for 25,000 torwards their new vehicle.

That's odd they would do that since I think a large portion of their profit comes from trade ins, if they sold all the trade ins for what they gave they'd go bankrupt quick. Maybe they just made this one exception. Glad it worked out though, sucks you'll have the pay the taxes that they saved, but prob still a good deal for you if you're getting it for what the dealer would have paid.

I once bought a Pontiac from my sister while they were at the dealership trading it in. Dealership was gonna give them $1500 for it, I told her I'd give her $1800 (to help with the tax savings and still a good deal for me tax free). Sold it a month later for $3200. Recently I was actually thinking back and wondering how I had money in college to buy some of the things I did, must have been things like this lol.

i was sorta in the market for a truck anyway so I'd be paying taxes on something else regardless.

I was looking at 2013/2014 laraits and platinums and they were priced at 32-35000 so 25,000 for a 2016. Im very happy,

far as the dealer if they wanted to sell the 250 then to them this deal becomes just a person walking in and buying with no trade to them. So yeah I guess hey could have made money on my vehicle as well but they was put in a hard spot if they needed to sell that 250! They didnt play the number game with them and try to get more for their trade and all that. It was a very small dealer And they walked in and said give us ur numbers and let's get out of here. They prob couldn't have gotten a better deal on a 250 somewhere else but they are old and didn't wanna go back and forth and all that with a big dealer.
