OP said his problem is the engine "puttering". What am I missing that we are now talking about the transmission?

If the typical oil jockeys (low totem pole mechs) they use at dealerships handled his oil change, it would have received the number of quarts specified in IDS, so, 6. The fact that the oil level was SEVERAL INCHES past where it should have been tells me they either 1) looked at the stick, figured it was going to drip forever, and called it a day or 2) Didn't bother to check the level, because they put in exactly the amount that is specified, so no way it can be off.

He also said it only happens in the extreme cold. I am thinking he is hearing and feeling the Tranny warming up and thinking it has something to do with the overfill. He stated it happened after the oil over fill then not again until it got really cold out. All summer long there where no issues.

Right, but the engine puttering isn't something you mistake for transmission doing something, especially when the engine was overfilled with oil and is therefore already a suspect.

This happens in cold weather, whatever "puttering" means...

While I'm accelerating there is the constant sound and than there is weird sections where no sound comes out, sort of like a pop but low.

I can't hear anything from my transmission, only engine rpm changes. I presume the 'sputtering' to be a stumbling engine, which is what I would expect with buildup on the intake valves, or fouled spark plugs, which are a possibility when there is too much oil in the engine.

This, you should pull your plugs and see what they look like.

I will take out the spark plugs and take a look. I was wondering that too.

Peace, if a couple of inches (according to the OP) equals 6 quarts. But, no one really knows for sure, if this equivalency is not accurate. I'm thinking several is more than a couple, that's all. The conversation jumped quickly to 2x when that had not been entered into evidence was my observation. Tech could have had spillage from overflow. I don't know if the engine will hold 12 quarts. Never gave it any thought. And when this thread dies, I doubt I'll think about it again.
