What is the standard about removing the bed bolts when applying a spray-in liner?

I had a 2005 Ranger that I had a Rhino Liner sprayed in when new. The installer did not pull the bed bolts, just sprayed over them.

After I had the Ranger 10 - 11 Months, we had a huge Tulip tree in the back yard come down & the top the tree landed on the truck's Cab. The body shop had to pull back the bed in order to do the body work & they had to cut out the Rhino Lining to access the bed bolts. I went back to the Rhino Lining installer after the body work was done & he put some black silicon (or something similar) on the bolt heads, which never looked great afterwards.

So what's the usual practice, pull the bed bolts before spraying the liner, or just spraying over the bed bolt heads?

Personal preference. If you don't wan't them Rhino Lined, just ask them to not sand them when they prep and tape them off when they spray the bed.

Most shops take out the main bed bolts and any/all bolts that provide access to critical components, such as the smaller bolts that hold the metal cover on the tailgate in order to get access to the mechanism if needed.

However, when I had my bed done 10 years ago they sprayed over most everything except the anchor points. Luckily I never really need to have work done.

As I said before, verify any points like this with your installer prior to the work being done.

The reason those small tailgate bolts aren't lined is because they remove the tailgate and the access panel and do them separately so you can remove the cover down the road to access the components. We would remove the tie downs and bolts prior to spraying. (you can install these from outside the truck after it's sprayed from over the quarter panel) As far as the bed bolts, we never removed them when we did spray in liners, we just taped 'em off if the customer didn't want them sprayed, plus it would be a PITA reinstalling them on a fresh liner.

Default Rhino lining

Got it done, turned out great, I guess they don't use the badge in the bed anymore

I have to drive an hour to pick mine up later, but it's done.

I'll probably post up some impressions this weekend when I tackle some of the other mods that I'm installing (Undercover hard tonneau, Amp power steps, Husky wheel liners, factory bed extender, etc.).

love the rhino lining. I'm sure Line-X would have been an excellent option as well but I can't say anything but positive things about Rhino lining and the installer.
Very happy

LineX.. Period.. RL's are more rubbery, and I have seen them peel off.

I have had Linex's since my '98.. I had a pallet of landscape bricks slid in w fork lift, then lifted up and slid more. No damage! If you have a non black truck the color match is AWESOME!

Just got my 3rd Linex last week in my '15 screw.

I agree about quality of the installer. Look at the previous work.

So I quizzed my installer last week on my 3rd linex, and he said that by policy of linex all screws had to come out. My last 2 were also sprayed over.. Like this better.

Also, my installer covered the hole in the tailgate for the thing I don't have.. Much cleaner..
