Short Box or Long Box

Longer wheel base makes for more stable towing and more sway resistance.
That is, of course, highly dependent on your trailer.
As a general rule of thumb, the longer the trailer gets the more longer wheel base helps.
I tow heavy and long, so I went for the 157 wheelbase SuperCrew.
It can be a bit of a chore to negotiate some tight drive-throughs and tight parking lots.
But I'm used to long wheel base pickups so it's not a problem for me. Just takes a little extra forethought before pulling the truck through.
There was also no way I was going to get by with a 5.5' bed. I would have gotten the 8" bed with the SuperCrew if it were an option, but it wasn't so 6.5' has to do. It's already ticked me off a couple times being so short...

I just purchased a 6.5' SCREW. like my father-in-law told me when I was shopping, "you're going to get a truck, get a truck". his thinking about about drywall, plywood, etc not hanging out.

I was going to go with the 6.5' box on my screw back in 2015, but reading about all the horror stories from the previous gen with vibration issues due to the two piece drive shaft I stayed away from it. Maybe they fixed it.

I prefer 6.5 beds for the extra space. You could also add a toolbox and still have descent space. With a 5.5 and toolbox, you got nothing left for real hauling.
5.5 bed is good for daily driving but for hauling things (like back in my construction days) and 6.5 minimum is a must.

Hi, 5.5' box to fit in my garage and fit in my driveway. Also for one piece driveshaft for smoother take offs while towing. With my tail gate down, I can carry 8' long boards with them only sticking past my tailgate by about 2" or 3"s. Works great for me.

If you don't "need" the bed length I would get a 145". I had a Scab with 6.5' box for while and it was much easier to park and maneuver around town than my 157" though I was not willing to give up the bed length when I decided I wanted a Screw. I generally use the bed of my truck more than I do the hitch so it just made more sense for me.

I could not find a SuperCrew with a 6.5 bed with in 200 miles of me. So I had to order. I hope I can live with such a short bed. My last five trucks have been crew cab dually's with a 8 foot bed. Garage space will not be an issue, as my Crew Cab dually fits in the garage with a harley parked behind it.
I had a 1985 short bed once, back when 6 foot was a short bed, and swore I would never have one again.
Long bed come in handy for hauling lumber. Guess I will need a trailer for 14 foot boards now.

I got the screw and 6.5ft bed for towing stability and for being able to lay long bass fishing rods down flat in the bed and conceal them with the bed cover. No regrets, I would never consider getting the ultra short bed. 6.5ft is already the short bed in my mind.
The ultra short bed looks goofy to me. You look in the bed and the wheel wells are almost touching he front wall of the bed. Reminds me too much of a chevy avalanche or an old ford sport track.
Having all of that cab space in a super crew and the tiny bed, its almost a cross between a truck and an SUV. Which I guess is perfect for a lot of families.
I will say that the turning radius on my truck is less than great. Its never really an issue until I get stuck trying to get turned around in a tight parking lot with a trailer in tow and I have to make like 3 k turns and jack knife the trailer everywhere.
One more thing I will say about the longer wheelbase. It really does make the truck ride better. My buddy has the short wheel base and I was given two loaner vehicles from ford, both short wheel base. My long wheel base rides better on rough roads than any of them.

If you're considering garaging it, make sure you know what will fit. I could fit a SuperCab with a 6.5' bed or a SuperCrew with a 5.5' bed. Garaging was not optional. The 6.5' bed comes in very handy, I am glad we got it. I don't need to put people in the backseat often, and there is plenty of room. I also don't have a need to parallel park it...
