I took the ball off my antenna, shortened it 5". To put the ball back on i had to taper the end a bit. I then put some jb weld in the ball and tapped it back on. Black paint and good to go. I live 70 miles from the station i listen to and have not noticed any loss of reception.

Yep, that is what I'm going to do, just pop off the ball and cut off 2" and tap ll back on. If I lose reception I will just switch to Sirius.

I did the exact same thing except I cut off about 9 inches. Looks great, doesn't hit the garage door and no loss of reception. I used a dremel to cut it and grind down the point of the remaining antennae to put the ball back on. The hardest part was getting the ball off. Whole job took about 20 minutes.

I did the exact same thing, had to add a little JB to keep the wire in place also. I did this to my last truck and it was fine also.

Sounds like a good plan to me, thanks for the input.

The easiest way to remove the ball is to gap a Crescent wrench about 1/4" and then use it to whack the ball. Do it into a shop towel or similar cloth so you don't lose it when it flies off. I've done about 6 of them over the years.

I bought the Stubby from CravenSpeed and couldn't be more happy with it. No loss of reception where I live. The look is amazing IMO.

Yep, another vote for the CravenSpeed. The flappy rubber ones look ridiculous.

But it's ashamed one should have to even do this, Ford used to put the antennas in the rear glass on sedans with defrost, why not now?
