Shorter Antenna

I took the ball off my antenna, shortened it 5". To put the ball back on i had to taper the end a bit. I then put some jb weld in the ball and tapped it back on. Black paint and good to go. I live 70 miles from the station i listen to and have not noticed any loss of reception.

The easiest way to remove the ball is to gap a Crescent wrench about 1/4" and then use it to whack the ball. Do it into a shop towel or similar cloth so you don't lose it when it flies off. I've done about 6 of them over the years.

Yep, another vote for the CravenSpeed. The flappy rubber ones look ridiculous.
But it's ashamed one should have to even do this, Ford used to put the antennas in the rear glass on sedans with defrost, why not now?
