I bought this one and haven't noticed any reduction in radio reception, I frequently travel 3 hours away from home and have signal on radio stations local to my house for over half of the drive, which is consistent with the factory antenna performance. Ran through several different automated car washes too without any issues.
I thought about getting a shorter antenna but I left it because I like to use it as kind of a feeler when pulling into low parking garages as it is the highest point on the truck, I put a little mark of white paint where the roof of my truck is that way if i pull into a low garage i can see how much clearance I have before proceeding.
I ordered the 13" version ... because... my wife says she likes them longer...
OK... all kidding aside. I just got mine and its works fine. I only listen to one local sports FM station and that comes in great.
However it came with a warning to not run it through a car wash. Which is the main reason I wanted it. Anyone running one and having a problem?
Not sure if you have a touchless option for the carwash? I have the 7" Rydonair on my truck and 13" Rydonair on my wifes Jeep. Both do weekly trips through the car wash without issue.
its a drive/ride through wash so no... its all whirling flappers. I do not recall Rydonair stating it wasn't carwash friendly when I bought it. Perhaps they just covering their ***?
I just went back and looked and there is no mention of it being car was incompatible.... and in addition to that there is a video linked on their amazon add that specifically says "you will have no worries using it in a car wash"... doubletalk..
I put a laser level on top of my cab, and cut off the stock antenna an inch above that. (Concrete garage parking had already removed the ball and loosened the wire that wraps around it - to the point I had to cut it off.) No issues with reception, and if it hits anything now, I know to stop and back up.
I always go to my local Autozone store. They have short ones and it only takes a couple of minutes to take off the original and put on the short one. I notice no difference between the two while listening to the radio.
