I have an update for those that have had issues with scheduled starts and other things missing from the app.

Ford recently put out several service messages to dealers regarding issues with the APP/TCU/APIM affecting proper operation. The messages state Ford is working on a software fix which is expected to be released in January. I don't know if its an APP update, TCU update or what exactly. Have to wait and see. I do recall one of the service messages discussing making sure APIM software is up to date etc.

I have a 16 Edge (Edge didn't have SYNC Connect until 2019) with a 19 Mustang TCU (J series that ran on a GEN4 APIM in the original Mustang). I was missing scheduled starts. I previously tried re-installing the APP, reloading as built, etc. Nothing worked.

So I decided to do something drastic with my setup.

First I did a master reset in my vehicle to kill the SYNC Connect Access. Then I pulled the TCU from my vehicle and put it on the bench with no antennas so that it would not connect to any towers. Using the VIN of the Mustang it came from I used licensed IDS and updated the TCU calibration (firmware). I used a GEN4 APIM and programmed it with the proper original Mustang programming and up to date software. I then added antennas to the TCU so it would "register" on the cell network. I added the Mustang to my Ford Pass APP. SYNC Connect was not an option for it. SYNC Connect was no longer an option for my Edge either even though I never removed/added the Edge from the APP. It was clear that the TCU was kicked from the Edge but not added to the Mustang so I let things sit overnight. Next day I removed the Mustang from the APP and added it. SYNC Connect was now an option and I clicked it in the APP, allowed the authorization via SYNC3 and everything showed up on the properly in the APP including scheduled starts.

Then I master reset so that it would kick it from the Mustang, powered everything down on the bench and took the TCU to the car. I plugged the TCU in but did not connect the antennas. Mind you the programming in the TCU was the Mustang as built as IDS loads that in during a calibration update. I put the Mustang as built into my Edge APIM. Then I connected the antennas for the TCU. I let the vehicle sit overnight. Still no SYNC Connect option for the Edge in the APP. I removed the Edge from the APP then re-added it. I now had the SYNC Connect option and I enabled it and later that day accepted it in the vehicle. Scheduled starts and all options were now in the APP for the Edge. I then put in my Edge as built into the APIM. I reset things a few times and re-authorized SYNC Connect. All options remained.

So it seems to be working as it should.

I never deleted/reinstalled the APP during this process...just FYI.

So if I am to understand correctly, the common factors for both the Mustang and Edge was to delete the vehicle from the app, master reset Sync and then initiate the pair process again?

Im not sure that migrating the as built from one APIM to the other was necessary.

While those may be common factors, I had to update everything and made sure the Mustang worked properly before transferring the TCU to the Edge and emulated the Mustang settings (other than the VIN) and then just changed the APIM in the Edge back to the Edge programming.

I had done resets, reprogramming, calibration, deleting the vehicle from the app and adding it again all numerous times with just the Edge and nothing would get it schedule starts back until I involved the Mustang in the mix.

On the very first page of this thread there is a list of most of the parts you’ll need. Some parts may vary based on your vehicle type if you’re adding sync connect to another vehicle other than an F-150.

What’s the best source for parts for this mod? eBay, junkyard or other?

I used a combination of all three.

The TCU, shark fin antenna, interior cab mounted antenna and one Farka cable was purchased from a junk yard.

The wiring harness was purchased from 2016BoostedGreyGoose.

Everything else was sourced from eBay or Ford itself.

As of late it seems the best place to find a TCU is on eBay.

Default TCU Connector Diagram

Out of curiosity does anyone have the diagram for either of the connectors that go to the tcu? Part No: JL3T-14G229-AK

EDIT: Apologies I wasn't specific earlier. I am looking for a diagram that shows what each individual pin on the TCU does. Not looking for just the CAN, power, and ground connection diagrams that are listed on the first page.

I'm looking for a specific diagram that says what each individual pin does. Not just the two CAN-BUS lines, the power, and the ground. I already have the TCU installed I am interested in learning more about what the other pins are for on the module. I don't have access to the motorcraft service docs so I was seeing if someone else might be able to pull down the service diagram if that is even possible.
