Default CMAX Install

Hi Guys

I know this is a F150 forum, but I came across this thread and thought I would give the remote start install a try although I know there are some issues.

I have a 2013 cmax and got a sync connect module from a 2017 cmax energi. When connecting the module up to medium speed canbus, perhaps a conflict with other modules. I connected it to the high speed canbus without an issue, but forscan does not find the module.

My assumption is that the module should work since it comes from the same type of vehicle. My temp connection is through the OBD port to see if it would work. Any recommendations on how to proceed?

You would need to reach out to the Forscan devs to see if they can add the ability for that vehicle type to display a TCU module and provide you with a test build of the software. Forscan knows what modules a model year vehicle could have and only scans for those.

Outside of that, if your 2013 is like some of the other 2013 Ford’s that have been mentioned in this thread, it won’t work on any of the CAN busses because it lacks the HS3 CAN bus needed.

I'm real interested in this thread/project. I know this is the F-150 forum and I had one until 2 weeks ago when I traded for a real clean F-350. It looks like I need to fab or buy a harness for my 2017 truck and go hunting for a few parts. I'm running Sync 3.4 and have fully Forscaned my truck as I usually do every time I get another one so I'm happy to do any programming necessary. Is there a specific TCU to be on the lookout for or will anything in the 2016-2020 range work?

The 17 C-MAX did not come with SYNC Connect. It came with a 3G modem for MyFord Mobile. Here is the OASIS listing for one; "MODEM:3G (MyFord Mobile)"

This new SSM caught my attention. It's for 2021 F150, but it sounds so familiar. Makes me wonder if the gateway is part of the problem on older F150's for this mod.

SSM 49826

Some 2021 F-150 may exhibit Ford Pass missing the button to activate the vehicle and/or a message stating WiFi hotspot feature not enabled when attempting to access the WiFi hotspot settings in the SYNC4 menu. This may be due to the gateway module configuration. To correct the condition, download and run the Gateway Module A Configuration app using the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS).

Yep, the last straw for me was a 4” to 8” Sync conversion harness. The guy claimed he was able to get things going on his own, and the day after he got the harness I got an email that literally said “what do I do now?” Since I tend to not blow people off, I exchanged 25+ emails with him and held his hand through every step to program the APIM and get it set up exactly how he wanted. Of course, every time I hinted at the fact that I only sold him the harness and he should/could do his own research, he would claim that he would just rather send it back and get refunded since the harness was somehow to blame. I’m pretty sure when all was said and done I technically lost money on that transaction.

Hopefully that provides a little insight to people who think they are getting ignored or someone won’t take their money. For every few people that will just exchange money for a harness and figure things out in their own, there’s one that thinks they deserve hand holding custom tailored to their needs and takes up more time than necessary. Those are, oddly enough, also the people who are quick to leave poor reviews, which are often detrimental to small businesses.

Ok, Need a bit of Help here guys, I ordered a cable for my install, but the cable I got had 2 purple ends on it, for the beige conection on the TCU. Is this the correct cable needed for the small antanna that goes above the rear window that will fit a CREW CAB? Iv seen the numbers for a reg cab and a super but not a crew cab. Thanks
