Yeah in my test the donor APIM wouldn't even accept the original GB5T-14G374-AF afterwards. I ended up having to use GB5T-14G374-DG (found in Super Duty's), to get it back up and running. The strategy is messed up which doesn't affect the operation of the system, it just throws a permanent U code for an incorrect APIM checksum which is easy to ignore for now.
I do have 7D0-01-01 to 7D0-08-02 now though after changing to GB5T-14G374-DG, but it's not my intended result. I wanted to get access to 7D0-09.

Yeah that's what he's been doing. He inserts USB #2 with all of the map files, and stuff and the entire update on it. Truck just says indexing an doesn't do anything after 15 minutes. But it's the exact same USB he used to update to 3.4 on his old truck , none of the files changed.

Inserting USB2 when the operating system is intact, doesn't do anything. It doesn't recognize what a reformat.lst file is. So it just indexes the drive looking for media files.
Since he is on 3.3 already, all he has to do is insert USB3 and it will upgrade the operating system from 3.3 to 3.4. There is no reason to use USB1 or USB2 or to reformat the system, UNLESS he has version 1.17 or earlier maps.

USB2 Doesn't do anything without USB1. What you have said, he inserts USB2 and it only indexes. That is correct. You have to use USB1 first to format the system. Once it reboots, it will be on the Ford/Mustang loading screen. Then you insert USB 2. Then it will install the updated operating system and maps.

I have a 2019 Explorer on Sync3 3.0. From what I understand, the reformater is for MY18.5, will this work on a 2019? Could the reformater file be modified to restore the initial file structure to allow downgrade back to 3.0? What method is used to SSH into the APIM? Is this published anywhere?
I am currently on Calibration level JR3T-14G371-CHA, Bootloader GB5T-14G376-AA, Strategy HB5T-14G374-CA, Calibration HB5T-14G374-CA, Sound Profile GB5T-14G379-AA, Illumination HB5T-14G379-BA, so probably no need to reflash to avoid glitches on 3.4.
