Just upgraded to v3.4 and NA 1 18 on my 2019 Lariat! Upgrade went in great without any issues. I updated to 3.4 first, and then used the official NA 1 18 from Ford. No issues what so ever (hoping I didn't just jinx myself!!)
So guys with 2017s with sync 3, anyone having any issues so far? I'm thinking of doing this now.
My only issue was a dodgy USB2 stick, had to go buy a new USB3 one for installation. And I think my USB hub is failing, but that's a common problem, not related to SYNC 3.4. I have an occasional blind spot fault when starting (especially if parked in a crowd) but it clears itself (and works fine) in a few seconds; I think the new SYNC initializes faster than the bus and sensors do.
This is probably nothing new to many of you but, for us deprived, 3.0 users, this may maybe of interest. 3.4 has a selection of backgrounds to choose from in the 'Display' section for General Settings. This pic shows the 'night' setting but, the day setting has this feature as well with lighter backgrounds. With 3.0, I had the 'GT theme' going before the version newest update which eliminated that theme. However, I noticed in the 3.4 19101 version, it was back in the 'test' section. The 19274 update has it gone again. I liked using that theme because it had a good background that wasn't intrusive.
Another thing I noticed during the upgrade was after the 'red screen' came up when the 1st USB loaded, a couple of seconds later, it turned to the blue prompt screen for the second USB stick.
it's because the files don't need to be on separate drives. I just packaged them unconventionally for simplicity of explaining what the files are doing to your system. With some minor editing all 3 usb drives could easily just be one folder on one drive.
Yeah, that makes sense.. I sorta thought that after reading Bills post.
Process to install Sync 3 V3.4 and update navigation maps to V1.18
Note for 2018+ owners:
Shortly after creating this thread Ford released free 1.18 maps for all 2018 and newer F150 owners with factory Sync 3 navigation.
So if you own a 2018 or newer F150, there is now an official process to update just the navigation content from your dealer on original Sync 3.0 systems.
! Proceed at your own risk! ! Do not attempt the firmware upgrade on Gen 1 Sync 3 APIM 's (part numbers starting with letter G). ! This is for North American models with Factory Nav. ! Some but not all Non-Nav owners who run this update lose Sirius Station logos for a random amount of time.
The entire process here can be summarized as:
1- Update firmware if you're confident in the process, skip it otherwise.
2- Insert a USB stick then remove it when prompted.
3- Insert another USB stick and remove it when prompted.
4- Done.
Here is an outline of what's involved: 1. .vbf firmware update with UCDSYS or 2.4.0 versions of ForScan. I think IDS, FJDS, FRDS can also be used. 2. Insert a FAT 32 USB thumb drive with Ford's Sync 3 reformat utility and wait for completion prompt ( < 10 MB) 3. Insert a FAT32 USB thumb drive with the contents detailed below and wait for completion prompt. ( ~ 12.8 GB) 4. Insert a FAT32 USB thumb drive with the latest Sync 3.4 update (this will lock out the ability to run the format utility but it can be reversed).
Here's a further breakdown of these three steps.
Uploads of the folders I compiled will be linked below so you can just copy my results.
1. Optional firmware update.
I used the files from a Sync 3.3 APIM. Files vary by region and hardware revision.
Messing this up can result in your system to no longer booting which is difficult to recover from.
Livnitup has mapped all the new addresses in his shared spreadsheet. The firmware update adds 7D0-08 and 7D0-09 blocks to the APIM.
The firmware update may also unlock the ability to add Ford's new USB-C hub, but I'm cautious because I don't think the old APIM's have the physical components to support newer USB power delivery standards.
2. Ford Sync 3 format utility - USB 1 ! Once you execute this on the Sync 3 assembly this partitions the APIM for the new file structure which commits it to V3.2 or newer.
To run the utility, put the contents onto a FAT 32 formatted USB thumb drive following this file structure.
- Package size ~8.48 MB
- After the file runs Sync 3 will prompt you to remove the USB drive and then automatically reboot itself.
3. Contents package - USB 2 ! I used EU English for the system voice. You may want to use the North American specific 5U5T-14G391-CE instead of 5U5T-14G391-CB
(EU English voice sounds much softer and still has an American spoken dialect).
Install time takes roughly 30 to 35 minutes.
Keep your vehicle running during the update.
Do not start this at night, the screen is stuck on full brightness during the loading sequence and it will burn a hole in your retinas.
- The new screen will show a Ford logo and prompt the user to insert a drive.
- This second USB drive is the GUI, NAV 1.18, map data, voice packs, Sirius icons, and other necessary content for North American models.
- After the update is done Sync 3 will automatically reboot itself and will prompt you to remove the thumb drive.
- This process can be used to 'restore' factory navigation map data without a dealer visit.
Install the latest Sync 3.4 update file - USB 3 ! This step will lock out the ability to run the format utility, but you can always downgrade if needed.
- If you have a current Ford vehicle which is either Sync 3 Version 3.2 or Version 3.3 just perform this step.
- This applies to Nav and Non Nav Sync 3 owners running version 3.2, 3.2, or 3.4 who would like the latest update (as of Nov 14, 2019).
Added notes:
Access to test settings may change.
It is accessed by one of two ways:
- Method 1 = turn on radio, then hold CD eject + seek forward on FCIM for ~10 seconds.
- Method 2 = turn on radio, then hold seek forward on steering wheel + seek forward on FCIM for ~10 seconds.
Below are the available current and new boot screensfound in V3.4: 7D0-02-01 xxxx **xx xxxx ** = 03 - Lincoln Black ** = 04 - Presidential ** = 05 - Raptor ** = 06 - Mustang ** = 08 - Vignale ** = 09 - GT 350 ** = 0B - ST performance ** = 0C - RS Performance ** = 0E - Continental
Ford knowingly published the below content already which can be found in all their newer vehicles, but some are under a press embargo, so don't post video's of these unless if you want to get called by Ford's legal department like I did

Question...If my 2016 F150 is a canadian model...after the update to 3.4 with the US English Voice...Does my truck will still have the french language option?

Anyone have a link or pictures of the new themes in 3.4? Additionally, what about their Forscan settings? Spent some time searching through the thread and found some settings for boot logos, but I'd like to see the actual Sync theme. From what I've read, it sounds like the new Lincoln theme is the way to go (for those of us who aren't fans of the blue anyways).

It is not wise to post some of the pictures at this time unless you want to draw unwanted attention from Ford.
Just try them I'm sure you will like several .
Aviator and Bronco are a couple of the favs but I'm using the Ford performance one for now.
