I had the same sort of thing on my 13. I think it's basically EL wire. Attached mine to my console shifter light wire and they dimmed with the rest of the lights and only came on when the dash lights come on.
I have my ambient lighting hooked up to my dash lights in my 16 like that so they're not on during daylight, only when the auto on kicks in during darker hours.

I went with the opt7 kit. Works great. They shine white when I open the doors and back to the last color they were left on when I close them. Super easy install as well.

I had a Kicker Hideaway sub installed under the rear passenger seat. Took my installer 50 minutes to do it. I've never installed a powered sub and wanted it done perfectly. I can't begin to tell you how awesome this thing sounds! What an improvement. Only other thing I've done is add Kicker 6X9s in the front doors. Clear and loud now with plenty of bass (for me). Probably won't do anything else to it audio wise. I would highly recommend the Kicker Hideaway.

I ran the stock thru the table saw and used SR screws and glue.
I used 4" screws and let them in from top and bottom.
If you have a spray in bed liner, you'll want to chamfer the edges a bit. I used a belt sander; took 2 secs.
