Default 2017 clunk coming from passenger side hub/axle

2017 f150 3.5 eco boost with fx4. 86k miles. Just started making a clunk sound that has never been there and trying to figure out how to fix it. Clip has the sound of the clunk. The rear passenger side hub/axle is the only one that makes the sound. only has play in and out not front to back or up and down. ANY IDEAS?

There's no clip.

How does in and out differ from side to side or up and down? On a differential axle in and out is side to side.

I think he means, in out like fender to centerline of truck. The clip inside is going to allow a tiny bit of movement in this direction. Side to side in this case, I think he means he rocked the tire or hub from the front side of the wheel well to the backside of the wheel well along the side of the truck looking for play in that direction (up and down also) in order to see if the bearing just inside the hub has busted and is allowing movement. Me thinks this is what he thinks.

Here is my awesome drawing.

Sounds reasonable. All diffs have some play in and out. I'd guess that the clunk is not related to the play in the diff.

He should describe when he clunk happens. This is not enough - " Just started making a clunk sound".

Yep, probably the u-bolts holding the leaf springs or the leaf spring isolators. Known causes of clunking in the rear.

clunk sound happens when turning truck and pressure goes from one side to the other. Not over bumps. Only when changing direction and turning back and forth. Slow speeds you can hear it clearly and still happened at higher speeds but not as noticeable. Worried it will cause problems with drivetrain and possibly the disc brake as it shifts in and out alloying uneven wear or pressure. Again this sound just started and has never been there before. So normal can’t be the right answer.
