Sigh,,,, does anyone remember when almost every turn signal bulb from almost every manufacture used the same bulb #1157. Worked great and then they had to go and to screw up a wonderful thing.
( I still have some of those bulbs in the shed for spares. They are purdy much useless now. I might as well save them, in a few years they will be worth money as antiques)

The Solution
tl;dr - just buy a 3157 and shave the tabs off, since finding the OE model that's in-stock anywhere will likely prove to be almost impossible.
I have the same problem that OP had. I just got back from purchasing a pair of 7440 Advanced Auto, which will now be gifted to the next person I find that needs new 7440 bulbs, because THEY ARE NOT THE CORRECT BULB.
Except YOU SHOULD listen to that guy...
So far it appears that you need both a current calendar and current parts manual.
aCtUaLlY... No, it's not.
7440 a single filament lamp in an all-glass bulb/housing, including the terminal.
7443 is a dual filament lamp in an all-glass bulb/housing, including the terminal.
Which is fine except that THE TERMINAL DOESNT TERMINATE.
"But... why not?"
Because the factory WT21/7W bulb is a dual filament lamp with a COMPOSIT TERMINAL.
It appears as though the quickest and cheapest solution is to buy a pair of 3157 bulbs and shave off the tiny plastic 'nubs' on the side.
Here - I brought receipts:
L>R: The box, the (wrong) bulb, and the original bulb
7440 bulb (left) is NOT the proper tail/brake bulb for 2021 F-150 XLT FX4. WT21/7W is the OE bulb (right)

I agree that the LED ones are much better !!! But, my 2021 F-150 is still using incandescent bulbs for taillights. They are just have a different socket.

Actually, do listen to @Steel City 07 . I had the same problem as OP and "this guy" is suggesting the quickest/easiest solution.
Older vehicles are easy in that you only had to swap out the flasher relay with a LED-compatible relay. However, a Forscan license is pretty much the same price anyways.
F-150s are a piece of cake compared to some other cars. Here is a different one I did:

This is the correct way. They're 4257. I bought 3157 Red LEDs and shaved off the two little tiny nubs on the base and they work great. Also have purchased a pair of red 4257 LEDs from Underground Lighting. They were bright and worked great too, however, if you want the best and brightest LED bulbs on the market, check out LASFIT Auto Lighting. There red LEDs are insanely bright, require NO resistors and NO Forscan. They're CANBUS and error free. Mention 1BAD_RS sent you and ask for a discount code. They work great. If any act up over time, they have great customer service. You may occasionally get a hyper flash blinking SOUND inside your truck for 1 or 2 seconds randomly and rarely but outside the bulbs are blinking at regular speed. I also have there Amber T3 version bulbs up front. Insanely bright. Light up highway signs from half a mile away when changing lanes. Best to be seen at night with all the crazies everywhere nowadays. LASFIT LEDs are all plug and play as well.
