F150 Lightning

I see two complicated machines that have dozens if not hundreds of failure points. Not sure what what you are looking at.

Imagine my surprise...Oh, it’s Elon Musk...no surprise there. I was hoping to see the real cost/mile of Tesla. [Unless I missed it or it’s embedded in the comments.]
For me:
1) 500+ mile range
2) Current F150 payload and tow capacity
3) Charging stations as available and cost competitive with gas stations and their $.00/mile cost.
When these three are met, then I’ll consider an electric F150.
Frankly given the debate in this thread, and general lack of payload in the higher trims, I am more inclined to make my next truck an F250 or F350.

So the free super charging goes away...

They can call it the CSX package
If it at all sounds like a locomotive starting, I'll buy one

I'm expecting it to be the fastest F150 ever. If the performance is there with AWD and it looks 95% of a normal F150 then I'll be a putting money down on one as soon as it's available. I'm actually excited to see so many people against it, hopefully that means no stupid markups.
I don't know *any* people that drive hundreds of miles every single day. For me, plugging it in at night will be 99.99% of my needed charging. If I need to go somewhere far, I'm not scared of a 30-45 min charge every 400-500 miles.

As the issues with range and the number of charging stations are resolved, EV will take off. Can you imagine the kind of torque they could get in an F150? It would be insane!
It seems pretty clear to me that vehicles powered by something other than fossil fuel-burning engines will eventually become the norm. Whether that EV or hydrogen fuel cell, or something else, is hard to say. But I think engines that burn fossil fuels will eventually be viewed the way we view steam engines now.

A lot of the appeal of older residential areas with street only parking would be lost with the installation of charge ports down both sides of the street.
Ram actually beat Ford to the punch with a hybrid that didn't bother to address the power needs of contractors and campers.
Of course they will fly off the shelf, the supply will be restricted. Ford would not be able to sell 400,000 EV F150's in year 1. This will be a carefully controlled release.
And insanely heavy. The power you get in the powerboost costs half the weight of the 2.7/3.5/5.0. The Tesla model X weighs 5200-5700lb, an average that is heavier than the F150. We're not talking about F150's gaining back weight lost on the aluminum diet, more like double that, a 5300lb XLT SCrew would have the heft of an F250.
We will see a good torque bump, at least off idle, as that's inherent in electric motors, but having MethHeadMode™ capable motors does not work well with a useful truck at this time. If Ford were to do that, they should go ahead and provide a 4" drop, snake emblems, 335/25R24 tires, and a trailer that can recharge the truck 4-5 times so you can actually get somewhere in a single day, 'cause you're gonna blow through your charge pushing the truck around.
