I've had people in the bed before moving things, 99% of the time was on a private road. The few times I've driven on the streets were in 25mph zones. I agree it's a pretty stupid thing to do if you're going on heavily travelled roadways.
Honestly, with that wreck it's a miracle anyone survived even with seat-belts and airbags.

The F150 guy must have been way over the "normal" speed. He was sill going faster than the van after he sideswiped 2 other vehicles. With the amount of damage to the truck, I wonder if he had hit other vehicles even before what was in the video.????
EDIT: After looking at the video right at the start, it appears the truck is in good shape.....man that thing came apart!

Very surprised at how much damage there is to the F150....and how easily it came apart. Wonder if my 2014 would do the same? For some reason, I always thought that by being in a "full-size pickup", I would have some sort of advantage (in a crash situation) over sedans and "regular" cars. I guess my thinking is flawed.

The '97-03 F150s did terrible in most crash tests, the cab strength wasn't anywhere close to what the newer trucks are. Your truck would do better than that.
There's lots of flawed thinking going around about size and safety though. You can see how well that unibody Equinox took a hit hard enough to launch the back of the car in the air. Modern unibody structures are extremely well engineered. Many assume that they're all plastic and will crack right open with any kind of impact. I feel safer with my wife and kids in our minivan than I would in my F150.
