Default 2013 Factory Rear View Mirror Backup Camera Help

I have a 2013 F150 XLT that did not come with a backup camera or the rear view mirror that displays the camera feed. I bought a factory mirror, part number BU5A 17E678 CD. And I bought an emblem backup camera. I brought the camera feed into the cab, and I can test the feed with a portable monitor and it works fine. Comes on when in reverse. But when I hook it up to pin 8 and 16 into the mirror, nothing happens. Where am I going wrong. Any help will be appreciated, thanks

Brian

I have a few pictures from my 2103 manual. I never did what you're doing, but my guess is you need power to the mirror also. Look over the connector plug and be sure your harness has all the wires. I sent the location picture so you could see C314 in the roof. that is where ford changes the harness depending on the truck features. I could be wrong but maybe the pictures will help.

This is purely speculation, but worth mentioning regardless. Since the truck did not come with it, even with adding all the OEM hard parts, it probably needs to be enabled in the BCM. Whether by visiting the dealer, or using ForScan

That's correct. If it's not enabled the truck's network won't send the signal to the mirror to turn on the screen. There is a CAN-BUS signal generated when in reverse that gets sent to the mirror to turn the screen on.

Just an update. I didn't have PIN 2 of the mirror connector. That is what I needed to make the display work. I ran a wire from the BCM in the passenger kickpanel up to the mirror, PIN 52 of the BCM connector C2280B to PIN 2 of the mirror connector. Now everything works like it should. Thank for the help everyone.

What year/model/trim was the first to offer a rear view mirror/ back-up screen? Was it a can-bus platform?

So Brian, you didn't need to go to the dealer for a BCM update?
