I replaced the coils at first because when I swapped the coil on cylinder 4 to cylinder 3, the code changed from P0304 to P0303. So from March to July and probably 2000-3000 miles I was trouble free until the CEL came back. I’ve got the truck going to a mechanic today for diagnostics. He suspects one of the exhaust valves on cylinder 4 is not sealing. I’ll update after he finds out what’s going on.

Default Fuel pump fuse?

I know this might sound a little odd, but how does the fuel pump fuse look? Was the TSB ever done for the fuel pump fuse Relocation?

I checked my VIN on Ford’s recall/TSB website and my VIN came back with no TSB’s or recalls. I did check it a while ago when I had an issue with my truck starting. Turns out the starter was just going out.

Update time: Technician called me on Friday and told me that cylinder 4 has 50 psi compared to cylinder 3 having 140 psi. They haven’t pulled the head yet, but he said that if it’s a valve seat or something like that he’d recommend having both heads machined, the quote he gave was $3,400.

Now that you know the problem, shop the repair. When the valve in my head went bad, the dealer only replaced that head. At that time, the dealer said they didn't do valve jobs on those heads. I don't know if thats still true. I put another 200,000 on the engine and had no issues with the other head. I don't know if a used head would be an option.

Whats the difference in price between replacing the head vs machining?

it would cost an additional $500 to have the head replaced vs machining. Most of the cost is labor on account of the DOHC, timing chain and cover, etc, etc.

What did you end up doing? I have the same issue with my 2014 F150 V8 5.0. Cylinder 4 is down to 60 on a compression test. The shop quoted me 10k for a used engine. Told me they can tear it apart but looking at 1500 in labor and not sure what they will find.

I ended up having a technician take the head off, he sent it to a machine shop and they reworked all the valves and planed the head, replaced the valve seats with current Ford part. I had that done 10/2020 and the truck has been solid since. It did run about $2,900 to have that done. Also, make sure they seal the timing chain cover correctly. The tech who did it, didn’t do it right and I had a small oil leak which I eventually had fixed. You don’t need a new motor, if you have the extra money, have them machine the other head while they’re in there to potentially save you another headache in the future.

Default 2014 f150 Similar problem

Had hesitation on my 14 f150 5.0 for some time. took it to the dealer and they ran diagnostics. they told me that everything was working properly. It happens still on light throttle, feels like misfiring but no codes?

QUOTE=jkenprice1;6755211]I know this is a little late, but, I think you should have taken the money you spend on all new injectors and had a dealership run an engine diagnostic. Replacing injectors on cylinders that weren't having a problem probably was not beneficial. Replacing parts without knowing the problem gets expensive really fast. There's no shame in going to the dealer for diagnostics.[/QUOTE]
