Has anyone cut their tailpipe and dumped it after the axle?

Hey all,
I've never liked the look of the plain jane tailpipe jutting out behind the rear tire. Not to mention it gets dirty easily. I don't see a point of putting a chrome tip on it to try and dress it up when that would just get beaten up as well. I am not looking to change the tone of the exhaust at this point in time nor will I be removing either the muffler or resonator. All I plan to do is cut the tailpipe back to where it starts bending down toward the ground right after it humps over the rear axle. I plan to weld on a nice tip at the end to give it that completed look. Just wondering if anyone has done something similar and If there are any pictures out there of something like this. Otherwise, I will be sure to post up mine when it is finished.
thanks

A friend of mind did this on his '11 XLT, all it did was clean up the lines of the truck from the rear and passenger side. No sound change.
I'll be doing this when I have a 14" Magnaflow installed tomorrow. Still debating on putting on a tip or not.

I've been tempted to do the same thing, minus the tip. I've done it to most of my pickups, even my diesels, I liked it on the others. Little worried about the noise though, it's loud enough as it is.

I doubt it will make much of a difference in sound if any. I don't plan to remove the factory muffler or resonator. Like 96grim mentioned above all I am really doing it for is to clean up the rear end of the truck. I will be sure to post pics of mine once I get it done.

When I installed my Magnaflow I just cut it off right after the axle. I did not buy a tip because I did not want to waste the money and because you can't see anything after it is cut off.

I have done this on both my F150s and it will change the sound. However, the change is for the better. While I do like chrome on a truck, there is nothing I dislike more than to see tailpipes coming out the back of a truck. I know a lot of people like it, but I don't. My truck wasn't an hour old and cut my tailpipe right past the bend over the axle. Sound got deeper and sounded much better at WOT. Now I have a 14" Magnaflow muffler, no resonator and tailpipe is the same and it sounds amazing!!

I've heard that if you don't have the tailpipe coming out far enough you need to have the pipe bent downwards to keep the exhaust from getting in the cabin. Anyone got any input as I'm wanting to get rip of the pipe too.

Yea a little sound change for me isn't a big deal. As long as it still stays quiet inside the cabin i'm good. I'm planning to cut the pipe once it starts bending back down towards the ground after going over the axle so I guess it will be pointing downwards then. But I don't think it is anything to worry about. I had my dual exhaust dumped on my trailblazer SS right after the axle and it was fine and that has a much shorter wheelbase than an f150.

Prior to my cat-back, I had a Flowmaster muffler and had it dump after the muffler before the axle. Never had ny issues with fume in the cab. I say do it as the stock exhaust looks out of place
