x pipe vs y pipe?
im doing a muffler delete on my 5.4 3v and im debating on wheather i should go the easy route and do a y pipe or go a bit harder and go for the x.. i heard the x pipe is louder. is there any truth to this?

well the x pipe is a more free flowing exhaust...just think of 2 pipes leading into one, the y pipe, how constricting it is like 2 lanes of traffic merging into 1, rather having one pipe exiting each exhaust manifold being the x pipe...an increase in flow and sound for sure

What year is your truck? I have a 2010 f150 with the y pipe, no mufflers with a 45° dump and I love it. My warranty just went out so I'm about to go to a true dual performance exhaust with a cut out. I just can't be quiet in my truck and I'm trying to gain back some mpgs! Let me get to the point, if your under warranty: y pipe. If your warranty is done, x pipe. Anything done before the cats voids your warranty. My Y pipe is plenty loud, I'm definitely louder than all the other trucks in town.

Personally, I'm going single exhaust design with 3" catback. Once the warranty runs out, I'll do long tube headers and will stick with the single exhaust for a couple of reasons:
1. Bought the truck for speed as I do very little off-road driving, so, single exhaust saves me around 50-60 lbs of weight.
2. For the power levels I will ultimately achieve in the end, with long tube headers, tune, and whatever else it takes me to achieve 400+ RWHP/RWTQ, a 3" single catback and Y will flow just as well as duals with a H-pipe, if its sat up right. I went both routes on my last race car and the H sounded better IMHO. I ended up going with long tube 1 7/8" primaries and 3" true dual exhaust with H-pipe. At that power level, I needed more exhaust flow.
