AHH! You just sparked my brain! After checking every wire with a diagram and made sure every sensor was clean...no fix. Computer on stock...no fix. Then when I read your battery comment it hit me; "Isn't there a procedure you're supposed to follow after unhooking/replacing the battery?"
Sure enough in the owners manual: Follow these steps so you're computer can "relearn" how to idle properly. Odd because I have unhooked it many times to work on my sound system; however, this time it seems to have taken its toll!
1)Put parking break on
2)In the Park position with all accessories off, turn engine on and let idle to normal running temperature.
3)Let idle at normal running temperature for atleast one minute.
4)Turn on A/C and let idle atleast one minute.
5)Drive for atleast 10 miles (16km). (i'm going to take a wild guess and say release your parking break at this time
)
Truck hasn't died on me yet after doing it. (still idling a little lower than it used too though.)
Thank you very much!! Time to clean out my engine bay, this South Texas dirt at our hunting lease is like powdered sugar and sticks to everything!!

My 2004 4.6L is behaving the same way, for a couple of days now. Power steering stiffened as truck stalled while going through an intersection. It was outta control and nearly impossible to handle.
I got a code off of mine that said "P0506 - Idle Control System RPM Low"
Got advice to try throttle body cleaner... put my finger in there and it was quite "gummy" in there.
Will try tomorrow...
