Even with my drain bolt pan, I still drop the pan. As old as my truck is, I'd rather be safe than sorry

Even if dropping the pan every 100 miles, no one can argue it is easier done with a full pan than an empty one....

I drop the pan for a filter every 30k. Not doing it every few hundred after a filter change; it's not going to fail in my time frame.

I think I’ve only managed a successful, spill-less pan drop only twice in dozens of pan drops. ATF is a unique cologne...

I've never had those problems.....
But I use a hoist, and have an 8 gallon drain on wheels with a telescoping 32"x32" funnel on top.
I even have a glove that has a cup built into it to keep trans fluid from dripping down my arm !

Here are pictures of before and after. I function tested and everything works like it should. Even have puddle lights now where before I did not.

That's why I don't have such equipment... working on other people's junk only in my spare time, I'd never make my money back.

At least the Ford was relatively easy to drop the pan, if not a clean endeavor when full of fluid... my Silverado requires some creative rigging to get enough space between the pan and the exhaust in order to remove the pan. Hence, the drilled hole in the pan and a welded nut inside to receive a drain plug. If I hadn't found a pan with a drain for the Ford, I would've made one for it the same as this one.
