I just did the Gott's mod this morning on my 2005 F-150 XL (regular cab), I have the 4.6L. I also have vinyl seats, as you can see, haha.
I did it a little bit differently than most probably would, but it works. I used 3" schedule 30 or 20 PVC, so I didn't have to grind or sand down anything. I didn't think to buy the rubber coupler but I did buy those clamps..I used some heat to fit the pipe into the intake port, then used some thermal (actual ductwork) tape and to seal the connections. I think it'll work just as good as the rubber coupler.

Thought about going to look at and potentially buy a 2018 Fx4 5.0 but then I detailed the truck and realized why I love it so much. It look so good and I would have to start all over again. Unfortunately, the fender flare clear coat has started peeling so I will have them repainted soon.
Changed my rear diff oil today. Refilled with 3 qts of full synthetic 75W-140 and a bottle of Ford friction modifier. Only issue I had was trying to squeeze the oil straight from the bottle. No way, the fuel tank won't allow the bottle to tip up. Had to pump it in with a small hand pump. Checked to make sure the vent line was clear as well. After 145,000 miles the gears were still in great shape.
Replaced D\S knock sensor. Had P0334 code and engine in limited power mode, so pulled everything including intake manifold (PITA). Pic shows why code was generated. Not sure why so much wire was missing as usually squirrels/mice chewing things is not an issue around here.
Also replaced thermostat gasket with a Fel-Pro one as it looked a little ragged after only 7 months.
Lastly, while I had direct access, replaced the lower o-rings on the fuel injectors. They were remaining from the Fel-Pro upper engine gasket kit for my timing job.
Power has returned and seems to have improved the lag time when accelerating.
Has anyone diy the 4.6 2v timing job? My engine sounds great but is starting to have some start up noise after 2 days no start. Doesn’t happen every time but it is an inevitable upgrade. 206k miles, when is the right time?....ford tech has a great 5.4 video but the 4.6 is different. $3200 at Ford out the door. $2500 at BSG automotive but I’m not driving 20 hours and staying in a hotel for 2 days then 20 hrs back. $1000 diy sounds good to me.....
I just finished mine last week @191K. Not as bad a job as I initially thought. Hardest part was removing and replacing the power steering pump, a 10mm ratcheting wrench is worth whatever you need to pay for one when doing this task, ford tech has a video showing how best to do it. Actual timing parts (chains, guides, new longer bolt for updated guide,tensioners and new seals for the timing cover) ran about $430 from a local dealer. The 4.6 2V doesn't have phasers so that helps with the parts expense. I bought a new set of cam cover gaskets for $35 (could have reused old ones though). I didn't bother with cam followers or anything else. The engine ran smooth and sounded fine prior to the chain slapping sound from the front so I took a chance that that was the only thing wrong.
As for tools specific for the job I paid $12 (way too much but I was impatient) locally for transmission line release tools so I could remove the radiator. I borrowed fan clutch holding and removal tool, and crankshaft pully removal tool from Autozone. I passed on the $60 cam holding tools and just used a couple vice grips with an extra pair of hands from my uncle to hold stuff in place. The cams don't move much anyway and are easy to rotate back in place if you pay attention to which way they turned. I treated myself to a $105 electric impact wrench from Harbor Freight which made short work of the crankshaft pulley bolt, but I bought that before I knew I needed to do the timing job so I don't really count that towards the total bill for the job.
I wish I could give total labor hours for the job, but I spread it out over 10 days. A rough guesstimate would be 5 hours to get to the chains, maybe 20 mins to actually change the parts, then another 5hrs to button everything back up?. I also did an oil change (the oil sump is exposed when the timing cover is removed and I am sure crud and whatnot fell into it when taking off the cover and I also did coolant change since system was mostly drained anyway to remove the radiator, Those jobs would add to the hourly total given previously. If the cheapest I could have the job done by someone else was $2500, I would have gotten rid of the truck. I just can't bring myself to spend more than half of any vehicle's worth on a single repair.
Best Buy installed a new radio today in the truck. I am very impressed with the interface and apple car play. I am having ceramic tint installed on every window next weekend.
