yes it needs to be done................eventually it will cause damage. There are many owners running around with the same problem and have no loss of power, they just put up with the ticking. Does it need to be done ASAP? Probably not. Mine has 98,000 miles on it and has been making the noise for 30,000 miles. For me that was 3-4 years. I dont drive mine very much due to having a company work truck, so I didnt feel the need to have it done right away. I decided it needed to be done when my coils started to go out one by one. I opened mine up and honestly it is knowhere near as dirty as the inside of yours. sorry to say that, but it is what it is. I have owned mine since new and have been a 3000 mile oil change guy since day one.

The coils I've been using in my 2005 5.4 since October 2013:

Amazon.com: 8PCS Ignition Coil For Expedition Explorer Mustang Pick Up Ford F150 F250 F350 F450 F550 Super Duty 04 05 06 07 DG511 FD508: Automotive Amazon.com: 8PCS Ignition Coil For Expedition Explorer Mustang Pick Up Ford F150 F250 F350 F450 F550 Super Duty 04 05 06 07 DG511 FD508: Automotive

Not a single problem with them. Remember to grease them. They come with new boots and springs.

Nice. If I end up doing it with someone I'll definitely use these.

Yeah. Probably the best part is if you happen to get one or two that are duds (I didn't, but just saying it's possible) you could just buy another set and then you'd have like 6 or 7 spares on hand and STILL be more than $200 under cost of buying new Motorcraft coils.

I just checked these on Amazon and it says they WON'T work with my 04 5.4. Am I missing something?

Mine came up as the wrong parts also. Just enter your truck and it will show you the correct ones at a comparable price
