Been wanting your missing door lights back? Well, heres how.
Yep, i got it done. It took about 4 hours, and was a pain in the behind, but i finally have my door lights. I only have the driver side in, as its getting too late, though thats pretty much the hardest one. Now, take into mind, i used a different type of light, NOT the plug, though overall, it will be about the same installation wise. WARNING: Though it should be obvious, if you use the light i use, make sure that you secure the light first.
First thing, you need to take off the door panel, the door sill, ( so you can get the kick panel off) and kick panel. Also, you need to take out the speaker. Next, comes the fun part. I had to use 22 gauge wire to match up what was on the light, as they did short me. remove the grommit between the door and truck, and start to feed the wire through. I do suggest using a good amount of extra wire so you have room to take off the door panel again if needed. I went through the truck first, which you have to reach under the dash and try to get it to your hand where the grommit once fastened to. I bypassed going through the grommit, and just went off to the side. With the sixe of the wire and almost no room inside, i took the easy route... But if you want to go through it, be my guest. This will be the longest and most irritating part of it. I cut my self a bit on this part... that thing really hurt...
I then used a couple of wire splicers to link the light.
Now, this is where i got lost a bit. After messing around, i learned you do NOT splice into the dome light wire. It wont work. instead, take the positive end of the wire, strip it, and remove the dome relay. It should be the top left relay with a black cover. Be careful though as it is very easy to take the cover off of it. After getting it out, put the wire in the middle slot. If you look at the bottom of the relay, there are numbers by each plug. use plug #5. Put the relay back in.
As for the ground, I used the one closest to the bottom of the truck with the green screw.
With that, you should have power to the light! I taped the wires together on the main harness and put the excess inside the door. As far as the passenger side, it should be a lot easier. The reason the driver side was hard is because of the E brake getting in the way. Though as far as the wires go, im just going to run them all the way to the driver side and tap into the wire i ran to the fuse box. Put everything back on, and Congratulations! You have gotten back what Ford did not give you! Overall, it was a bit of a pain. I was doing this blind and got lucky a few times. I almost thought i messed up when it wouldnt light. Though overall, it was worth it. I love the look, and i hope everyone who wanted lights can finally get them back. I'll be taking care of the passenger side real soon. I'll post pics when i do.
