Old topic, new problem: Shuttering/Shuddering at 45MPH uphill
I have a F-150 2002 Ext. Cab FX4 5.4. It has 108K miles on it.
The problem only has recently happened. I start to go uphill I press the gas slightly and this shuddering effect starts to happen. I press the gas harder then it goes away but I speed up. It seems to only happen at the 45 - 48 MPH speeds. I've changed my fuel filter, seem to lessen it. Thought about changing my transmission filter and fluid to hope that is it. Last year I had my spark plugs and some of the packs changed but ruled them out since this just started to happen. I've read several earlier entries about the same problem similar problem but the solutions were wide spread. I know that changing a head light wont fix it just saying.. I won't rule out the computer, I know heat is bad for it and there seems to be a lot of heat on that side of the truck. Any suggestions are welcomed.
Thank you all,
Neil

Got the truck back from the shop no faults found. Even if I take the overdrive off it's taking the load off the truck and won't tell me if it's the transmission or the coil packs which I am hearing is the most common thing for these trucks.. I'm getting a ride along next tuesday and the mechanic is going to be watching for a misfire on the reader to for sure see if it's a coil pack or not..

I had the same problem with my truck. One of my friends who is a mechanic said it was the torque converter. Told to me to go to autozone and buy some shutter stop. It's made just for Ford torque converters put it in and instantly quit the shutter. Hope this helps u out

The answer
It is in fact the coil packs that had caused the problem. Fords computer is stubborn and you could have somewhere up to a million misfires before it throws a code. Also remember once you start to change one out very soon the other coil packs will go bad also. For me it was #3 that went bad then #5 then #2. Hope this helps. If I wanted all 8 changed it was going to cost around 700 bucks.
