Steering Linkage movement
2002 F150 FX4 Screw w/52k miles.
I have had a minor clunk sound coming from front wheels for a couple weeks, doesn't pop over every bump, dip, etc... Yesterday, I finally was able to jack the truck up and check out ball joints, tie rod ends, etc and everything looked pretty good, quiet, no play or any other loose movement.
On a hunch I popped the hood this morning and tugged on the steering linkage below the firewall. There is some up and down movement that clunks a little bit, but no side-to-side movement. Can't feel any play in the steering wheel but you can feel it when it clunks.
If this weather would ever break I could get a closer look at the problem. I understand some vehicles have a bearing right where the linkages come out of the firewall. Haven't found any diagrams for steering system in 97-03 F150's yet, that would be a big help.
Anyone else have this problem?
