Well my tranny went out and I'm about to order a monster trans heavy duty 4r70w. There are three options on torque converters and I have no idea which one i need. I've had this question on a different thread but nobody answered.
1600-1800 stall
2300-2500stall
3300-3500 stall
I really need to know this I want to get it ordered so I can get my truck on the road.
Thanks guys
Also is monster trans the best company to go with? And who has one and can tell me how they like it??

Romp It!
Unless your going to be rebuilding your engine with a different cam any time soon, I would go with the 2300-2500 stall since its closest to your peak HP and TQ. And I don't personally have a Monster trans since I'm still running on my factory one but my neighbor got a rebuild kit from them and he absolutely loves it. I've rode it in and I will for sure be getting one if/when my tranny bites the dust

If you tow anything stick to around 1600-1800 it will keep the trans temps down better. I'm running a 1800 10" billet converter from Suncoast. You dont need a looser converter with a relatively stock engine. A 5.4 makes peak torque in a relatively low rpm range.

I don't do a lot of towing. I'd say the most weight I'd have is my sled in the back or a quad. And of coarse the occasional broke down Chevy hahaha but really I only pull stuff very rarely. Should I still go with this?

Ive run 3 different converters with my suncoast 4r100. At first i had a PTC billet 12" witha stall of 2300-2500, i didnt like how the truck felt with stock tires. Then switch a ptc 10" with the same stall. Now im running a 10" suncoast billet converter with a stall of 1600 and the converter will flash to 1800.
If you plant to run bigger tires and a taller rear geat for highway milage a lose converter will help get the low end tq back. I prefer to kerp a tighter converter. Its all in preference. Call the guys over at monster before you order and see what they would recommend for a converter.
