Hey LowCoyote,
Followed through your post pretty extensively. It is a big help as I think this suspension set up has a lot of issues. Briefly, I Recently had issue with IHC myself and wanted to follow up about what happened to you. Let me know if I can we can chat through messages here. It's a pretty extensive story along the lines of yours and wanted to gather some more information about individuals who have experienced this with IHC. Thank you and really appreciate your detailed account!

I heard about a guy that wrecked his flip kit racing, and after reading your post, you must be him! I don't believe it was quite an issue with the torque on your U-bolts, but rather not having traction bars to keep that axle wrap from occurring. I would think no matter what kind of U-bolt brackets you have on there, that axle wrap is gonna put a ton of stress on them until they eventually give out. Hopefully you got a good set of bars installed...just not the BWoody ones.

To make a long story short, fitment and installation are pretty terrible. And on the BWoody web page for the traction bars, that capitalized bold red text about the bars not being compatible with Maxtrack flip kits was put up after I discussed my issues with BWoody. I have reason to believe that the flip kit wasn't entirely to blame for the fitment issues.

2 things:
  • They don't use a carrier bearing bracket and require you to cut the crossmember to mount it, they just cut the bracket off that I did and then drill bolt holes to mount the carrier bearing directly to the crossmember. So I removed the bracket, (remember I didn't cut out half of the crossmember because I didn't want to, and had the bracked over the crossmember) and did just that, raising about another 1/4". Much better, vibrations are almost gone. The pinion angles all seem to be within the 3 degree operating range now.
  • Torque the U-bolts to 100 ft lbs. Holy crap that's tight. Tighter than I had them initially, for sure.

Do you remember what size hardware you used for the carrier bearing in this setup? I’m looking to do the same on my truck.

None of them are strong enough to live with heavy abuse like racing.
Would it be a good idea to have solid/billet saddles made? Or do they need to be hollow for some reason... perhaps being able to flex in order to conform to the axle? When I held my Maxtrac saddles up to the axle tube they didn't sit flush until the U-bolts were tightened down...

Default good info

Thanks for taking the time to post all this, I haven't been on in awhile but came to check for anything on these perch plates because mine is starting to bend/warp/walk forward on the passenger side. Sure enough, I found your post.. I have a rear flip(maxtrac i believe) and the plates aren't oversized, but my truck is over 800whp on the 3.5 pulley and i think performing multiple launches over the last couple years have taken their toll.. I was looking for a fix and have seen where some eliminate the perch entirely by putting actual rounded U-bolts over the axles on either side; in fact crown suspension uses this method for their rear flip kits, unsure if other brands are doing this as well.. but i like the idea of custom perch plates with welded guide dowels like you did.. I may be having some fabbed up after seeing your post.

I have the Maxtrac flip as well and I never liked the idea of the perch plates. I didn't like how the metal bent after tightening down the U-bolts and I wouldn't have considered doing the flip without something to keep that axle wrap in check. This is why when I put in the IHC performance kit this weekend I will be using the rounded U-bolts and locking it straight to the axle. I may or may not swap out the saddles. It depends on the condition and if the angle is much different because I've had zero issues with the Maxtrac saddles.
