New 2021 Ford Raptor Headlights and the look of the Front End
I loved the front end of the 2nd gen raptor and my only gripe was that the DRLs (LED strip around the headlights) wasn't bright enough. The amber LED strip was very dim during the daytime and it wasn't bright enough to act as DRLs. So I was wondering if we know the new amber LED strip around the new headlights is bright enough and is actually DRL.
This is how I imagined the headlights would look all the time on the 2017 raptor. even during bright sunny day.
But this is how they ended up looking
Imagine seeing this bad boy in your rear view mirror
on a side note: I cannot wait to order my Raptor R. All I need is a confirmation that it will have a V8. I'm struggling to wait a whole another year for the R. Somedays I think to myself if I should get the Raptor now and get the Raptor R when its released and wonder how much money I'd loose on that trade.
I don't think you'd lose much. Resale on raptor is crazy. Plus you drove it for a year plus.
I'd guess 5 grand or so plus any add ons.
But if you're wanting an R, who cares about 5 grand? 😉
I haven't kept up with gen 1 or gen 2 resale values, so I'm really out of touch on that part. yea 5 grand is nothing in the grand scheme of things.
I've wanted a raptor since Gen 2 was announced, but I settled for a 2018 Lariat because of the long wait times for the Gen 2 deliveries.
I really want a V8 raptor but seeing how the V6 will be hard to get or even custom order for the first year, I can't even imagine how hard it'll be to reserve a Raptor R.
So my plan is to Order the V6 Raptor asap and drive it until I can get my hands on a V8 Raptor and hopefully I don't loose too much on the V6 raptor, either trade it in or sell it privately.
you are going to be disappointed if you are hoping for anything different regarding the amber running lights. The picture you showed of the gen3 was indoors with no direct lighting. The gen 2 is just as bright in that situation.
also the amber lights will work exactly the same as gen 2 (won’t be on in the daytime). This is due to federal regulations as to when the amber lights can be on and how bright they can be
you have to remember that the raptors lights, while iconic, are a result of good design to satisfy DOT regulations. Those regulations also govern when they can be on and how bright.

could the new raptor have amber DRLs in the light?
Potentially- but as we have seen- Ford has different drl schemes for different models (for example this gen had white drls in the lights and the raptor had essentially the low beams. The older ones he amber drls in the lights so it may be possible
what is not going to happen (and what your original post implies) is that all of the amber running lights (which are really parking lights) will be used. This will NOT be the case

I was trying to ask if we know for sure if the raptor will have Amber DRLs because the Gen 2 raptor didn't. like you said, it used low powered low beams as DRLs same as 2015-2017 F50. But the F150 got a facelift in 2018 and From 2018-2021 Ford has used the White LEDs around the headlights as DRLs. Raptor never got a facelift so it never got the 2018+ style headlights, hence why it always had the low beam DRLs.
So with this new redesign of the Raptor, I was wondering if Ford is finally going to make the Amber DRLs.
And as I pointed out, Amber DRLs are pretty common and I think even Hyundai has a vehicle with Amber DRLs and I think Mercedes did as well at some point.

Actually I went back to that Raptor Video and I think I might have confirmed that the Ambers will indeed be the new DRLs. This is still from the raptor video and the truck is driving but only the Ambers are on, normally on gen 2 or any vehicle the DRLs come on as soon as the truck is in gear. On gen 2 the low beams would have been on, and the lows would have been on, on gen 3 if they were DRLs.
The video above shows the new Raptor with the running lights on since the grille and fender marker lights are on, but since the new '21 regular F150 with the same ugly front end has white edge lights which are the DRLs, it could be assumed that the Raptors amber edge lights will be the DRLs as well since the only change here Ford would have to do is the headlight assembly itself. For anything different there would be programming changes and manufacturers generally go with the easiest option between models.
I am 99% sure that it has been confirmed that the R will have a V8, we just don't know what that configuration will be (Coyote with supercharger?). I know someone who has already ordered one. I don't think you would lose a ton by getting a Raptor now and then trading up when the R is available. I think that many people who are holding out for the R will end up getting a regular Raptor once they see the sticker, especially when some dealers are already planning on marking the R up by $30k+.
